Monthly review of Ipsy Bag

August 2014 :: Ipsy Gam Bag :: Beauty Schooled

photo 3

This month will be my last Ipsy Glam Bag. I’ve decided to cancel after over a year of monthly bags. Truth is, I haven’t been “wowed” by my bags over the last several months and I think it’s simply because my makeup knowledge has vastly expanded and I’m no longer in need of being introduced to products monthly. I know what I like and I know what to look for. I enjoyed my experience with Ipsy but it’s just time to move on. It’s not you, Ipsy, it’s me. Anyway, here’s what my bag contained this month:

  • Absolute – Lip Balm in Green Apple
  • Glam Glow – Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment
  • Urban Decay – Perversion Mascara
  • Lord and Berry – Silk Kajal Kohl eye pencil
  • Manna Kadar Cosmetics – Sheer Glow

I’ve had a lot of fun sharing my monthly glam bags with you guys!

July 2014 :: Ipsy Glam Bag :: Sensationally Sunkissed

photo 1

There won’t be a lot of break-down for each product this month. Mostly because I’m just not that thrilled with this month’s glam bag from Ipsy. Maybe Ipsy has just lost it’s appeal for me or something but I find myself underwhelmed in recent months. I’ve been redeeming a lot of my Ipsy points for extra products and I’ve found that Ipsy has been better about offer more products more frequently for redeeming. (Which is nice because it’s been a complaint of mine for several months.) Without any further ado, here is what I received in my July Glam Bag:

  • BareMinerals – 5-in-1 BB Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow in Barely Nude – It’s a neutral cream eyesahdow. BareMinerals is one of my favorite brands and I’ll definitely put this to use. But still: *snore*
  • Pixi Beauty Mini Tinted Brilliance Balm in Pretty Pink – I’m really digging this lip balm. My only complaint is that it’s a mini version and, in the past, Ipsy has featured full size Pixi products (including lipsticks)
  • Pur-lisse Pur-protect essential daily moisturizer spf 30 – Another f*cking moisturizer/sunscreen. Yay.
  • Marrakesh Hair Care Marrakesh Endz – Is there really such a thing as a split end fixer?
  • Models Own Nail Polish in Red Sea – I paired this transparent red with glitter polish over Essie’s Serial Shopper (a coral shade) and I like the bright results. My over all opinion, though, is that this product (and maybe even this brand) is a bit cheap and cheesy. 11 year old me would’ve had no problem at all with it.

June 2014 :: Ipsy Glam Bag :: Pretty In Paradise

20140615-083717-31037608.jpg

My June Ipsy Glam Bag is fantastic! It’s really one of my favorite bags ever! I was super disappointed with last month’s bag and found myself, once again, on the brink of cancellation. It’s bags like this that make me remember everything I love about being an Ipsy subscriber: the products I received this month are all products I can and will use and (more than likely) would not have discovered on my own.

June’s bag, which was designed by Rebecca Minkoff, included some pretty fabulous products. My bag included:

  • Be A Bombshell – Lash Out Mascara : I’m a fan of B.A.B. products and have high hopes for this mascara.
  • Nicka K New York – Shimmer Eyeliner in Blue : The color is beautiful and the texture is superb. Easy to apply, long-lasting. Gorgeous
  • NYX – Butter Gloss in Apple Strudel : A simple pinky-peach. Feels a bit heavy on lips but looks nice.
  • Dove – Pure care Dry Oil
  • Realtree – for Her perfume : Not one of my favorite scents.

This month, I also received two products that I redeemed tipsy points for. It’s safe to say, these two products are my favorites that I have been able to claim with tipsy points. (This month’s delivery is just FULL of favorites!!)

I was able to score a full size tube of bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie lipstick in Light It Up and four different face masks from Baksshi Botanicals: 1.) Aloe Vera for Moisture 2.) Vitamin C for Brightening 3.) Honey for Hydro Balance 4.) Marine Algae for Collagen

Here’s a closer look at the beautiful Light It Up lipstick. I really love the tube itself with its unique locking mechanism.

I’m so happy with my delivery this month and all the amazing goodies I can play around with.

May 2014 :: Ipsy Glam Bag :: Beauty’s Fresh Picks

I’m not even going to spend a lot of time on this post. I’m already a month late getting around to posting this at all and it’s mostly because I was so bummed about May’s Glam Bag, Beauty’s Fresh Picks.

Cearly, I need to make some changes on my account/profile because this month I received far too may creams/oils. 4 out of my 5 products! I received:

  • Hang Ten – Classic Sport SPF 50 Sunscreen
  • Pur-lisse – pur-moist hydra-balance moisturizer
  • Hey Honey – Take It Off exfoliating honey peel off mask
  • Balanced Guru – No Frizz Oil organic sesame & lemongrass balancing oil
  • Pacifica – Mineral Eyeshadow duo #2

I like that most of these products are cruelty free and do not test on animals and I also like that a lot of the ingredients in these products are natural but how many creams does a girl need. I’m always disappointed with a cream in my bag and this go-round I received 80% cream/oil. Not thrilled. I absolutely considered canceling my subscription this month but I had already claimed a few products with my ipsy points and wanted to at least hold out another month for those too.

Not thrilled. Not happy at all. Like I said, I’m going to adjust some of my setting on Ipsy and see if that helps with my upcoming bags. And as I’ve made mention before, as much as I usually love my ipsy bags each month, the novelty is wearing off and I’m ready for new makeup adventures; I believe my time as an ipster may be coming to an end soon. We shall see.

Thanks for reading!

Also, I’ve been posting my personalized link that when clicked and a new ipsy subscription results for the clicker, I earn ipsy points. These ipsy points have allowed me to earn extra goodies. I’ve already got so many points racked up, that I thought I would allow my readers to submit their link in a comment to encourage other readers to join. That way, you guys can earn some extra ipsy points too! (I have to approve all comments and will not approve ones that are clearly spam or copy and pasted messages that I can see you pasting all over other blogger’s comments sections as well.) April 2014 :: Ipsy Glam Bag :: Beauty Rocks

I received my April Glam Bag from Ipsy, yesterday; I had very mixed feelings about this one. Ipsy is the one beauty subscription services I’ve held on to since I went on my subscription box binge beginning in Summer 2012. I got bored with Glossybox, Julep Maven and downright fed-up with Birchbox but Ipsy, I stayed with for well over a year now. I still look forward to my monthly bag of goodies but some months are not as awe-inspiring as others. Some can be pretty disappointing, actually. April was one of those months for me and for several reasons: Some of the products are good products, perfectly fine, but they’re just not awesome. Some arrived damaged this month and caused some extreme disappointment. I really like the design on the bag this month. I’d love it more if it didn’t actually say “Ipsy” on the record but, hey, that’s branding. I also love that all the products I received this month are made in the USA; that’s pretty neat. (I’m not actually 100% sure where the Cailyn lip balm was made, it doesn’t say on the bottle.)

photo 2

  • Cailyn – Tinted Lip Balm in Apple Pink I like the color I received; It’s the kind of color I would totally pick out for myself. I would’ve liked to have been sent Acid Pink, though. That’s not a color I would normally choose and one of the main reasons I started with cosmetics subscriptions was to be challenged and try products and colors I normally wouldn’t. When paying $19 for a lip balm, you’re going to select the one you feel most comfortable with, one you know you’ll use. For $10 and a surprise with no guarantees, I want to be shocked more, scared even. What made this product a real disappointment for me wasn’t the color, however. This product came half full. One side of the container is pretty full to the top and it just slopes down, barely covering the bottom on the other side. (That’s a bit confusing to explain: It looks like the product melted while being stored on it’s side. Still, the container wasn’t filled with product so there was ample room to move to one side.)
  • Urban Decay – 24/7 Velvet Glide-on Eye Pencil in Black Urban Decay 24/7 pencils are my absolute favorite liners ever. I am never disappointed to received these and always have them in my makeup case. Never a disappointed. I could complain that this product is nothing new and nothing out of my comfort zone as I did above with the Cailyn color but I don’t want to. I love these pencils and will never complain about getting them. I have them in many shades and colors and use them almost daily.

photo 3

  • Demeter – Roll on Perfume Oil in Jasmine Not “wowed” by this product at all, it does smell nice… It smells like Jasmine. I find it a bit odd that Demeter encourages the use of multiple scents. I suppose it makes some sense: Why smell like Jasmine when you can smell like Jasmine and [blank]? I don’t know. I’m more of a one scent kind of gal. Not disappointed with this product but not excited about it either.
  • Dr. Brandt – Microdermabrasion scrub – Like every scrub or lotion I receive from Ipsy, I’ll use it but I’m not thrilled about receiving it. It smells terrific! It feels really nice too. I also really like any Dr. Brandt product I’ve received but still not “wowed”.
  • Elizabeth Mott – Pop! Goes the Shadow in Champagne First of all, I’m getting bored with the Elizabeth Mott products; they’re not that great. Second, my eye shadow arrived completely broken up. It’s more of a dust shadow now. Such a huge disappointment. The color is nice and I hope to get to use it properly sometime but it’s a mess. I can’t even open it without losing product every time when it comes spilling out of it’s cheap container. Party foul, Ipsy.

photo 5

By redeeming Ipsy points I’ve accrued, I also got a 6th product this month:

  • TokyoMilk Dark by Margot Elena – Slated Caramel Lip Elixir – This stuff is pretty amazing so far. It smells fantastic! It feels pretty fab too and even tastes great. My mom gave it a try and loved it also. I’m so happy with this product and love that Ipsy offers that points reward system to earn extra products but I shouldn’t have to rely on the extras to make my monthly experience worthwhile. This may have been the month I threw in the towel had I not received this lip elixir.

photo 4

One more gripe, since I’m griping: The selection of products that Ipsters can redeem their Ipsy points for needs to change more frequently. As of present, I have no other options allowed to me until they add a new item to choose from since I’ve gotten them all. And thats not because I do not want doubles, I would order another TokyoMilk Elixir in a second if I could. I have plenty of Ipsy points to spend and want to get my hands on more products! (Don’t we all?) The options seem to stay up on the site for months, perhaps until they sell out?

Had it not been for the Urban Decay liner and the TokyoMilk Lip Elixir, I would’ve been a very unhappy Ipster this month. I’m pretty unhappy as is but I would’ve been uber disappointed otherwise.

In other news: I posted last month about my car accident. My collarbone is almost 100% and last week I purchased a new-new car. I’m now rolling in a new VW Passat and feeling very grown-up! Thanks for the kind messages and emails while I was healing, it means a lot. After a bit of a rough patch, it seems things are coming back together nicely and I’ll have the pleasure of posting more frequently. Thanks again for reading and all the support!
