Orlando Shenanigans

A week later, I’m finally getting the time to post about my recent trip to Orlando. One of my friends was visiting home from Chicago, where she currently lives, and we decided to make the short drive north to Orlando where one of my other friends lives with his fella.

With a rad playlist ready to go, she and I hit the road Monday afternoon. Upon arrival, Nicki, Ron and I jumped headfirst into some liquor and shared the night catching up and then painting for a while. There was also a small, impromptu photo session with Ron’s huge clock.

When Nicki and I first checked into La Hotel De Ron & Brad, Ron had gifts waiting for us in the guest bedroom. For me: Ron framed prints of a series of paintings he had done that are inspired by Harry Potter and the four house uniforms. So adorable! I can’t wait to hang them!

Now, speaking of Harry Potter, Ron and Brad were able to arrange for us to explore the new section of The Wizarding World at Universal, Diagon Alley, on Tuesday. That post is set for tomorrow so check back to take a peek at my first time visiting Diagon Alley! -yes, I cried.

Tuesday night, we all enjoyed some good wine followed by a fun evening at Universal’s City Walk. We had dinner at Jimmy Buffet’s Margarittaville (which was actually quite disappointing) and then drank and sang karaoke with a live band at Rising Star. A fantastic couple of days with a couple of fantastic people.

PS – Last night, my sister and I saw Guardians of the Galaxy. I thought it was amazing! I really loved it. (I went into it knowing next to nothing about the comics though.) I didn’t even think Zoe Saldana was as horrible as she usually is compared to Amy-Stupid-Pond’s desperate reach at acting. I didn’t even believe her when she was just standing there. On a sexy note: when did Andy Dwyer get so ripped and dreamy? And, of course, I’d be remiss not to mention Mr. Sexy-face Pie Man as Super Douche.

Let the Sunshine [Award] In.

A few weeks back, one of my absolute favorite beauty bloggers, Eithne,  paid me an enormous compliment by nominating me for the Sunshine Award! The Sunshine Award is passed on from blogger to blogger; “bloggers who positively and creatively inspire others in the blogosphere”.

Once you accept your Sunshine Award nomination, you must then:

  1. Acknowledge the person who gave this award in a blog post.
  2. Do the Q&A below.
  3. Pass on the award to 10 deserving and inspiring bloggers, inform them and link to their blogs.

Rule #1: The Nominator

The completely amazing, utterly adorable, smarty-pants who nominated me was EithneLovesLipstick. This nomination comes with so much more flattery since it came from this lovely lady. If I could turn around and nominate her again for this award, I would, but I’m not sure if I can since she’s (obviously) already been nominated for this award. She’s originally from Ireland (which I can not help but absolutely love) and she now lives in London (which I also love).

Rule #2: The Q&A

Who is your favorite philosopher?

Perhaps an unconventional choice, but I’m going with Jim Morrison, late front man for The Doors. I’ve listened to The Doors my entire life, had my first preteen poster-makeout sesh with a poster of the multiple-shot iconic black and whites of him and have fallen in love with his poetry. His lyrics have always impacted me emotionally, due in large to their being saturated with alternative perceptions of life, love, obsession and death. His poems aren’t restricted by constructional boundaries or even limited to this world.

What is your favorite number?

9. I was born on a 9th and it always seems to follow me throughout life. For instance, often times, I will look at the clock at 3:33 (3+3+3=9).

What is your favorite animal?

Well, I have two dogs: rescued Yorkshire Terriers, Jack and Lucy. I love them more than most of the closest humans in my life, honestly. I made it through some extremely dark times because of the love I have for those two pups.

However, my “spirit animal” is a fox. I love them and every time I see one, I like to imagine it’s a cosmic reminder of my fierceness, grace and cunning… but I’m kind of a self-absorbed ass.

If you were hoping for a more exotic answer, Giraffes. I think they’re adorable and I guess I’ve always kind of identified with them. (There isn’t one class photo in which I was not in the furthest back row with all the tallest boys.)

What is your favorite time of day?

Dusk. First of all, waking up before noon is brutal. If you wake up at (or after) noon, you have a few hours to wake up, eat, run an errand or two during normal business hours and then: there’s dusk. I also have extremely light-sensitive eyes (I require sunglasses when its overcast) and an intolerance for heat; dusk is just more comfortable.

I also like the middle of the night (early “morning”). Best time ever to drive on “busy” roads… I hate other drivers.

What are your Facebook and Twitter?

I like to keep my Facebook completely separate from my blogging life. But I love communicating with readers and other bloggers via twitter: xGingerKate

You can also find me on Instagram @GingerKate

What is your favorite holiday?

Oh no… My friends and family know that I am “the” holiday girl. I love celebrating. Based solely on how much I enjoy the celebrations of the holidays, here’s are my top favorites:

#1. Halloween… I always go all out.

#2. St Patricks Day… my friends depend on me at this point to throw my annual shindig. I got St Pats on lock.

#3. TIE:  The 4th of July… I’m a sucker for fireworks. & New Years Eve… enjoying the memories and the refreshing feeling of a new beginning, whats better? …when you add booze. Memories and new beginnings with booze.

#4. The entire Christmas Season… cookies, shopping and goodwill. It is the most wonderful time of the year

#5. My Birthday… it’s January 9th. I look forward to your gifts.

What is your physical favorite activity?

None. Unless sex and/or eating count. Then it’s sex and/or eating.

What is your favorite non-alcoholic drink?

Coca-Cola. I’m a junkie.

What is your passion?

Art. I like to enjoy others’ creations and I live to create. Theatre, Visual Arts, Literature/Poetry, Music and I consider Fashion an art as well.

What is your favorite flower?

Orchids. and Waterlilies. and White Roses.

Rule #3: My Nominations

Ok, I’m supposed to nominate 10 other inspirational bloggers, here’s where it gets a bit tricky for me.

Something I’ve been wanting to do is connect more with more bloggers, especially fashion and beauty bloggers. Over the last couple of years, I’ve connected with a few very special ladies and they are definitely mentioned below. The reason I’ve stayed connected with these bloggers is because they weren’t just BSing to get more followers, they were truly connecting with another blogger. (They also post some pretty fabulous things!) BUT there are only 5 of them (would’ve been 6 but I can’t nominate Eithne again) so, I thought I’d also share a couple of major blogs that I follow regularly. Here goes:

1.) fancieland.com – Fancie is an adorable beauty blogger who started Fancieland just under a year ago. Whether she’s reporting on drug store brands or higher end goodies, this girl tries it all!

2.) fat-aus.com – Bronny is one of my favorite bloggers in all of the world! I’ve been following Fat-Aus for a couple of years now and even stalk her out on Twitter and Instagram. One of my favorite things about following this fierce and fearless blog is that, since she lives in Australia, she’s covering her winter daily fashions when I’m rocking my summer styles and vice versa.

3.) rockinoutinstyle.blogspot.com – Amanda is actually a personal friend of mine. We met years ago when we both began working at Universal Studios (the gig didn’t last long for either of us) and instantly bonded over Motley Crue, Rock and Roll and Makeup. This chick is a bonafide rock junkie and her style reflects that. RockinOutInStyle is her blog showcasing all her fan-f*cking-tastic fashions and passions.

4.) thefashionpa.blogspot.com – Michelle is another blogger I’ve been following for a while. We first connected via twitter about 2 years ago and I’ve been following TheFashionPA ever since. This Toronto girl has fab style and is a fellow Ginger!

5.) jaclynsmusings.com – Jaclyn is a newbie to blogging and she’s also the newest blogger I’ve connected with. Makeup, movies, books, fashion, whatever, this girl writes about it. JaclynsMusings is just that, a blogger and her thoughts on anything and everything.

Too Big for Me:

6.) HowToBeARedhead.com – Stephanie and Adrienne are two Ginger Sisters who specialize in all fashion and style matters for redheads. For obvious reasons, I check their blog pretty often. I also follow them and many of their contributors on Twitter and Facebook. They always respond to questions and in the past, when I’ve asked them something that they hadn’t already posted about, these chicks jumped right on it and had a post answering my question within days.

7.) WhatKateWore.com – This blog is dedicated entirely to ‘What Kate Wore’… No, not what I wore. Kate [Middleton], Duchess of Cambridge. I absolutely adore Kate’s style (and her) especially since we share a name and a birthday (different year). These bloggers are good. I mean, really good. They have designer names, style names, prices and links of where to buy all of what the pretty duchess dons… and within minutes of Kate being spotted wearing them.

That’s it. Those are my nominations for The Sunshine Award. I want to thank Eithne again from EithneLovesLipstick for nominating me for this! Check her out, she’s phenomenal! As I mentioned, I’m interested in connecting with more bloggers. I want to eventually link my blogroll on ginger-kate and I’d love to include some others since, as you can see from the above, I don’t have very many “blogger friends”.

Ginger Meets Ginger

Earlier in the week, the original Ginger from Gilligan’s Island, Tina Louise, was a guest at the hotel where I work in Palm Beach! Having idolized Ms. Louise since childhood, I was quite excited for the opportunity to meet her. I was quite inspired, early on, by this Broadway, TV and (of course) Movie Star.

As one of the earliest celebs to pose for Playboy (in 1958) for means of further promoting her celebrity status, Tina Louise was very much a groundbreaking performer who maintained a lady-like demeanor while crossing those sexy, scandalous lines. Also in 1958, Tina was named “The World’s Most Beautiful Redhead” by The National Art Council. (Quite the honor if I do say so!)

Although my encounters with “Ginger” were brief, she was sweet and gracious each time. It was a pleasure to have met one of my (and America’s) favorite Redheads of all time! Ms. Louise was staying on property with her daughter (from her marriage to radio and tv host, Les Crane), Caprice Crane who is an author, writer and producer with many credits to her name.

New Job Jitters.

Tomorrow is the big day! I officially start my training tomorrow at the hotel.

This week I bought myself my new “uniform”. A black suit. I have to wear my hair back so I’ve been finding all sorts of cute ponytail ideas and bun ideas. I’ll be sure to share what I come up with. (Maybe even get into posting “how-to” videos! Fancy.)

I have everything that I need. I even had my car spruced up today, oil change and what not. I need new front end breaks… but that will be fix shortly. I know this opportunity is a great one and I know the commute will be more than worth it but I am so nervous about starting. I know it’s going to be awesome but I’m scared.

My roommate says the jitters are good. He says, “If you didn’t have them, it would mean you don’t give a sh*t. At least you give a sh*t.” and I guess he’s absolutely right.

...heading down a new road.

I’ll be training at the hotel for the next three days, so I have three of my favorite old posts scheduled to reblog. I hope you’ll forgive the cop-out and I also hope you’ll enjoy each of them. (They’re cute, I promise).

I also added a menu of categories to better navigate my posts. I have to go back and edit most of my old posts; the pictures and lining are all messed up and I’m kind of an OCD freak. But if you’re a new reader, please check out some of my older stuff (and, again, excuse the ones that are all over the place.)

Thanks for reading. It is always appreciated. and so are comments!!!

Dancing in the rain, alone, in the middle of the street.

Today I drove back down to the hotel in Palm Beach for take care of all my paperwork for hire. (So excited to start this new opportunity!) Leaving my town, it was beautiful and sunny, but I neared West Palm Beach it began to downpour. Heavily. It was scarey. I was on I95 trying not to slam into anyone, whilst also avoiding getting slammed into. It was absolutely ridiculous. I made it to the hotel, late, but I had called and it had been storming badly down there for some time for they weren’t surprised. I found a parking spot and grabbed a spare jacket that I had in the back seat for some sort of coverage. (I never have an umbrella when I need it.) I ran down the block, getting completely soaked. My heels were filling with water. It was horrible. But I made it! I dried off a bit (as best I could) in the ladies and then met with my managers and began filling out my paperwork.

It was still pouring when I finished and they offered to let me stay and wait out the rest of the rain. I declined politely and ran back to my car except this time, I was done. I didn’t need to preserve my skillyfully crafted look. I took of my heels and splashed down the sidewalks. Once I got to my car I opened the door and through my purse inside as well as the jacket I had used for coverage on the way in in the back seat. I tossed my heels in and on the floor and stood there. I allowed the rain to come down over me and I loved every second of it. Suddenly I was overcome with the joy of knowing I didn’t have to return to my old job and the excitement of starting this amazing new oppertunity… I was jumping up and down the puddles and did a short, but distinct, happy dance. (Kind of a jumpy butt-shake session.) I found myself completely elated and dancing in the rain, alone, in the middle of the street.

It was pouring, but bound to let up. I had made it through the storm. Survived. I was now standing at that crossroads where my life takes a different direction and who knows where it will lead.

It was one of those perfect moments. The kind that make life worth living and remind you that that’s exactly what you’re doing, living.

Sometimes in life you have to stop and take time to dance in the rain.

Ok… and now, real quick: I had to go take my drug test, right… in Lake Worth… ok…

The “lab” was creepy, one room and a bathroom.

I walk in. Nobody there, but the door is wide open. I read the sign, “fill out this form… blah blah blah”. So I take a clipboard and start working on that.

After a few minutes, the Doctor comes out of the bathroom, very surprised to see me and says “Can I help you?”

“I’m here for a drug screening. I’m from *the hotel*”

“Oh. Ok.” He says and then begins to spray the sh*t out of some air freshener in the bathroom. Clearly, I walked in on him dropping a deuce. Awkward.

He begins to start processing my paperwork and recieves multiple personal calls on his cellphone. Something about someone in his family taking someones car for an oil change or something. Lots of yelling though. This gives me time to properly acess this man of medicine’s attire:

Scrub pants. Ok. Obvious doctor attire.

Dirty sneakers. Ok. Kind of gross.

Tank top.

…. well not so much a tank top. To be precise, it was a sleeveless, stretched out old tshirt.

Yeah.

He barely followed proper collection protocol (I know this because I am drug screen certified in Florida thank you very much!) but whatever, it was weird and creepy… and in Lake-freaking-Worth. Gross.
