DIY – Accessories Organizers

Recently, I got some cheap supplies from the thrift store and the craft store and decided it was time to finally organize all my Fandom jewelry and, of course, my sunglasses. I’ve made a sunglasses frame style organizer before but it was time for a new one. Here’s how I did it all:

First up: Sunglasses Frame Organizer

What you’ll need:

  • Old frames (size depending on your need/use)
  • Spray paint
  • Ribbon
  • Super glue
  • Flat thumb tacks

1.) I picked up some ugly bathroom art at the thrift store.

2.) Spray frames

3.) Using glue AND thumb tacks, attach ribbon to the back of the frame. *Be aware of the space you’ll need for hanging the sunglasses. I attached one ribbon close to the top and another about half-way down the frame.

Done. Bingo-Bango, you’ve got your sunglasses organized and easily accessible. (I have a thing for sunglasses…)

Next: Jewelry Organizers

What you’ll need: *This is really up to you and how you want to organize. I chose:

  • Cork board
  • Bulby thumb tacks
  • Small dishes/bowls
  • Hemp upholstered bracelet holder
  • Hemp canvases (small, matches bracelet holder)
  • Spray paint
  • Acrylic paint

Necklace Display:

1.) To jazz up the cork board, I taped off the design I wanted and sprayed with gold spray paint.

2.) I also sprayed the bulby thumb tacks to match.

Bracelet Display:

3.) Using the acrylic paint (I chose teal), I painted a swirly design around the bracelet holder.

Earring Display:

4.) Using the same acrylic paint, I painted stripes on the small hemp canvases to coordinate and tie everything together.

That’s really it. Just getting creative with some cheap stuff so I can easily accessories my Geek-Chic ensembles without having to dig through boxes of tangled jewelry. I keep the fancy stuff in a proper jewelry box but for all the fun stuff, I really like my new set-up.

Plenty of space for even more jewelry like those I receive from my Fandom of the Month Club boxes each month… Oh, I haven’t told you about my Fandom of the Month Club boxes each month? Well, that’s a post for another day. 😉

Treasure Coast Comic Con ’15

This past weekend was the very first Treasure Coast Comic Con! In anticipation of this local con, earlier this year, the Treasure Coast Cosplayers formed. Since the groups creation, we’ve grown to include hundreds of cosplayers and con enthusiasts from the Treasure Coast and surrounding areas. We make up excuses to cosplay and hang out and we always have a fun time! TCC showed up and showed out at TCCC ’15 and I’m so proud to be apart of that! Here’s a bit of my TCCC 2015 experience.

Day 1

My best friend Kacie and I attended Saturday as Poison Ivy & Harley Quinn. We got to snap pics with our mini-me’s. (I gotta tell you, this little girl made me feel like a Disney Princess the way she hugged me!)

We spent most of the day hanging with other TCC members. (I even got to meet a local 10!)

Day 2

Sunday was quieter all around. About half as many attendees over all but we still had a pretty large TCC group in attendance.

I met Iron Man and hung out with fellow Whovians.

But the most exciting part of the day was that the promoters for the event asked our group if we would take a picture with all of the celebrity guests in attendance! It was awesome!

The weekend was a complete success for me! I got to play with the TARDIS both days and I was proud of the two cosplays I worked hard making: Poison Ivy and The Doctor (10th, Brown Suit)

I can’t wait for TCCC ’16. Thanks to all the awesome people who made this weekend so much fun for me. and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KACIE! I love you!

Poison Ivy & Harley Quinn Cosplay for TCCC ’15

Today was day one of Treasure Coast Comic Con 2015! After day two, tomorrow, I’ll post a wrap-up of the Treasure Coast’s very first annual Comic Con but for now, here’s a look at how the costumes I made for Kacie and myself look.

My #nerdvember Master Post

This year, I participated in Set To Stunning‘s #nerdvember contest. Each day, during the month of November, participants can earn an entry into the contest by posting a nerdy inspired outfit of the day. Those who entered 1-10 days qualify for Tier 1 : The Sidekick. 11-20 Days, Tier 2 : The Vigilante. 21-29 Days, Tier 3 : The Hero and All 30 Days is Tier  4 : The Superhero. I jumped in on the 9th day of the contest so posting everyday for the rest of the month, I’ll qualify for the “Hero”. (For full contest info and rules, check out the official post.)

I had so much fun with this photo challenge and even made some pretty rad instagram friends along the way. (For more information on each of these looks, check out my instagram @gingerkate )

Geeky Chic Nostalgia

I’ve been having so much fun participating in Set To Stunning‘s #nerdvember. The nerdy-themed outfit of the day Instagram contest got me thinking about two of my favorite chic geek outfits from the past.

First up is the outfit I wore for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special: my Her Universe Red Dalek Dress with my black & white cardigan and some villain inspired jewelry including my Adipose earrings and a [Max] Capricorn necklace.

The other, is the first time I wore my Sherlock ‘Bored’ A-Line Dress from Gold Bubble Clothing. My yellow Converse All Stars and yellow belt looked smashing with the yellow smiley face and my Sherlock Holmes “The game is afoot – Sir Conan Arthur Doyle” necklace from Hot Topic completed the look. (I even got props via Instgram & Twitter from Gold Bubble Clothing’s Creative Director (cosplayer and Set To Stunning Blogger), Victoria Schmidt!)
