Ipsy Glam Bag : Destination Beauty : Mar. ’14

Destination Beauty

March 2014 Ipsy Glam Bag

This month’s glam bag only contained 4 products. That in itself is a bit of a disappointment. However, the 4 products I received are all products I’m pretty happy to get. From what I can see of other Ipsy subscriber’s bags, they also received 4 good products. This month I also received one of the products I redeemed ipsy points for: the NYX kit. The theme, Destination Beauty, is meant to inspire upcoming travels and use with ease on vacay. I love that the bag showcases the work of an up-and-coming San Francisco based artist, Klari Reis.

Here’s what my bag contained:

  • bareMinerals – Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Get Ready I’m a fan of the Marvelous Moxie lip glosses but this is the first MM lipstick I’ve tried. I really like it. It applies well, stays nicely and the color is a natural, subtle color thats perfect for anytime. I only wish the sample were bigger.

  • Nicole by O.P.I. – Roughles in On What Grounds Very similar to the O.P.I. Liquid Sand polishes with a grainy (sandy), rough texture. I like the color, a bit of an easter egg/tiffanys blue and the testured polishes are fun to play with. The only thing I don’t like bout this polish is how long it took to dry.

  • Be a Bombshell – Eyeshadow Quad in Bora Bora I’m always happy to try another Be a Bombshell product and I’m loving the colors in this quad. A golden shimmer dark brown, a bright teal, gold and copper. This quad only exacerbates my desire to go on vacation.

  • Pixi Beauty – Flawless Beauty Primer – I’ve only used this primer once so far but I liked it. It feels light and holds the makeup. It has a very very subtle tint to it and leaves a light golden glow so I’m planing on trying this without any foundation on top. I feel like this primer can provide enough correction and coverage with the assistance of a light concealer.

As mentioned, I redeemed 1000 tipsy points for an additional item. This month, I got the NYX Bronze Smokey Look Kit. The kit contains 9 neutral tones shadows; a tan/gold/brown palette. The kit also contains two lip glosses: 1, a rosey pink and 2, a golden shimmer.

Another satisfactory month for me. I redeemed another 1000 tipsy points and along with my April 2014 Glam Bag, I’ll be receiving TokyoMILK Dark by Margot Elena Salted Caramel Lip Elixir.

In other news, I’ve been dealing with a broken collarbone for the last 4 weeks. This is the first week I am not using my figure eight brace; the first week was HORRIBLE! It hurt so badly. Everything hurt so badly. I got into a car accident and when the seatbelt tightened up, it snapped my clavicle. No fun. Now that I’m mostly healed, it’s time to buy another new car. Needless to say, it’s been a stressful month. I do have a bunch of neat tips on how to dress yourself as well as do your hair and makeup with one arm. Maybe I’ll have to share some of my tested tactics.

As always, thank you for reading. And a special thank you to some of you wonderful readers who signed up for your own tipsy glam bags by using my link. You helped me earn the tipsy points I’ve been happily cashing in recently: Lisa, Allison, Caroline, Susan, Kenya, Morgan, Erica, Melanie, Abbigail and everyone else!!

Ipsy Glam Bag : Celebration : Dec. ’13

Ipsy’s December 2013 Glam Bag

This month’s bag is a fun one for me. Nothing inside is particularly “must-have” but it’ll be nice having them about, I suppose.  Here’s what was included in my bag:

  • Be A Bombshell Cosmetics – The One Stick in Girl Crush – Cheeks, lips, even eyes, The One Stick is good for it all. Girl Crush is a very soft, iridescent pink. I love doing a bold eye and this color is perfect for a complimentary subtle cheek.
  • Nicka K New York – Nail Polis in NY112 – It’s a deep mauve, a favorite nail color of mine. I’ve yet to properly access it’s durability but I’ll definitely get the chance soon when I give this polish a try.
  • NYX – Lipstick in Iced Honey – Very sheer, peachy-pink. Not a lot to this lip color, just gives a nice shimmer.
  • Pop Beauty – Eye Shadow Trio in Bright Up Your Life – Pretty decently pigmented, this trio is perfect for building a classic smokey eye.
  • Ardell – False Demi Eyelashes in Black – I’m no flasies professional, but as far as I can tell, eyelashes are eyelashes and the secret is in the application… which I happen to suck at. I’m willing to give it another try this new years, though.

A closer look

I’m going to have some fun with my New Year’s Even look and just might include one or two of these. Thanks for reading! If you’re interested in becoming an Ipsy Subscriber, you can CLICK HERE and do so. (Clicking my link earns me Ipsy points so thank you in advance!)

Ipsy Glam Bag : Glam It Up : Nov. ’13

November 2013 Ipsy MyGlam Bag

Glam It Up!

Oh, Ipsy, you’ve done it again! Another fantastic bag this month! This months bag included SIX products and each one is pretty stellar!

  • Nailtini – Nail Laquer in Caviar Cocktail A beautiful silver, this color with get a lot of use for me and the upcoming holidays!
  • EM by Michelle Phan – Lash Gallery Lengthening Mascara This is a new line of products by Michelle Phan. The packaging is cute yet simple. Seems like a decent quality mascara; I’ll definitely use it up. Not waterproof though and i get some runny-smudging going on after long-wear.
  • Be A Bombshell – Lip Crayon in Hot Damn It’s red and I love a red lip. Must reapply pretty regularly but this color is nice to layer with under gloss. I do love Be A Bombshell products and am happy to add this to my lip collection.
  • Pixi – Beauty Bronzer in Subtly Suntouched Great subtle bronzer for colder months and cooler looks. I’m a fan of Pixi and was happy to find this in my bag this month.
  • BH Cosmetics – Baked Eyeshadow in Asteroid – I’ve tried some other BH products in the past and have been fairly happy with their results. This shadow is pairs perfectly with the eye pencil and nail polish I received this month! Absolutely perfect for a glamorous holiday look!
  • Starlooks – Gem Pencil in Topaz The color is more of a silvery periwinkle and I can’t wait to use it in a glammed-up eye!

Glossybox : All You Need For Fall : Sept. ’13

September 2013 :: Glossybox :: All You Need For Fall

My September Glossybox arrived yesterday (yes, I’m shocked at my turn-around on this post also) and it is quite a fantastic box! I am more please with this months Glossybox than I have been with recent boxes. I’m very excited about each of these products so I’m going to jump right in!

  • Oceane – Makeup Remover Pen – What a fabulous new must-have for me! I don’t know if pens like these have been around for a bit or are a recent development but it is certainly a brilliant new concept to me and I have positively stoked about receiving this. I gave it a try last night and do believe this sweet angel will save me when I make an application oopsy. When I first opened this pen I thought it was to assist in the removal of your daily makeup, the stuff you cant get close enough to with a cloth. I was so disappointed that instead of removing my liner for a night of sweet slumber it instead smudged it around [creating quite a beautiful smokey line, however]. Once I read the glossy description, I realized its true purpose and experimented to find it does, indeed, do it’s job which is to remove the mistakes made when putting your face on. Love this product!
  • Be A Bombshell – Eyeliner Pen in OnyxI LOVE IT! I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT! [kicking leg high in the air as I purch on my desk chair as Joyologist, Helen Madden would]. Beautiful black onyx, smooth application, durable and not easily smudged: The perfect liner for a flawless and dramatic classic look. Also with Halloween coming up, this could come in very good handy! It’s like using a Sharpie… and I love that.
  • Emite Makeup – Eyelash  Curler – I have several eyelash curlers: a cheap one, I have the same cheap one but newer and I have an even cheaper than ‘the cheap one’ one. I’m a big fan of curling my lashes and this curler by Emite does it far more comfortably than my others. I don’t have to squeeze hard and go back for second and third rounds with this curler. I guess I never realized the importance in a higher quality lash curler; you live and you learn and you get more beautiful!
  • BCBGMAXAZRIA – Bon Genre Eau De Parfum – I like this scent a lot. When first applied, there’s a soft citrus amongst the floral. After it settles, aerates and bio-chem has kicked in, the scent  softens yet is not undetectable. A delicate femininity teaming with a vibrant up-beatness. Anyway, I like it on me.
  • Nioxin – Diamax Treatment – Glossybox, have you seen my hair? Thickness isn’t a big issue. However, this treatment is also intended to prevent breakage and strengthen hair. Cooler weather is just around the corner and when I wear my hair straight, it is, obviously, less voluminous than in its curly state. Perhaps a little more fullness will do my straightened locks some good this winter. I’m excited to use this and since this is a full bottle, I’m pretty jazzed.

Fantastic box this month, Glossybox! Absolutely wonderful! I’ve been planning on making September my last Glossybox. I received my first in October last year so I made it the entire year (which I can not say about Birchbox. blech) but I think it’s time I move on, at least for now. Who knows? I may decide to resubscribe in the future… OR I may login to cancel, do some glossydot math and possible receive one more on the house. (I should really check this out…) What I’m saying is that this will probably be my last Glossybox review [for now] but i just might have anther one in me. Check back and see!

Thank you so much for reading! And a special thank you to all my subscribers from the beginning: I know my blogging gets a bit willy-nilly from time to time and I space-out only to pop up out of nowhere with far too many post alerts; I just want to say how very much I appreciate you guys staying subscribers and for welcoming me back so enthusiastically each time. It means a lot. To all my new subscribers: thank you too! I’m so glad you found your way to ginger-kate and decided to return!

December 2012 :: Ipsy Glam Bag :: Haute Holidays

Here it is! My review of my December 2012 Ipsy Glam Bag and it’s another winner! This is only my second Ipsy delivery and this bag is just as fantastic as my first one, last month. (Have I mentioned how completely happy I am that I dropped Birchbox for Ipsy?) This month’s theme is Haute Holidays and the goodies inside this bag are the perfect additions to your holiday look particularly if you like a dark smokey eye and bold red lips! Ow-Ow!!!

First up is the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil – ZERO –  I really like this pencil. It remind me of the L’Oreal Liquid Pencil but it lasts a bit longer without making its way down your lower lids. There’s nothing worse than an eye pencil that you have to really work to get enough coverage (cough cough, CoverGirl) but this pencil does not give you that problem.

Also from Urban Decay, I received a sample of their Naked Skin Beauty Balm – Feels lovely. Has SPF 20. Helps repair skin over time and it’s oil free. This is just my kind of BB. Loved this extra in the Glam Bag this month.

Mai Couture Highlighter Papier – I haven’t had a chance to use these yet but I think the idea is fabulous. I will most definitely write a followup about how much I love/hate these later on. This sample gave me 25 sheets to use which is pretty generous in my opinion.

Mirabella Prime for face & eyes – SHAKE BEFORE USE. This should definitely be somewhere on the bottle and packaging. (maybe it is and I overlooked it the first time) There seems to be some significant separation when it sits, so make sure to shake this baby before using.

I gave this try on my face and my eyes. As a face primer, it seems to do the trick but then again, when I used it, it was late at night and I just wanted to get a feel for this before reviewing, so I didn’t leave my makeup on for very long after. Whether or not this will help your foundation stay put for an entire day is still yet to be determined (by me at least). As an eyeshadow primer, I didn’t like this. In fact, I feel like it did the opposite and make my shadow wipe off easier. I like that it contains Vitamin E and helps smooth wrinkles and protect skin, but I’ve used better primers with similar benefits that I like much more than this one. Not a winner for me.

Ipsy gave me, not one, but two of the NYX Ultra Pearl Mania Loose Pearl ShadowBLACK PEARL – Great for that smokey holiday eye. Iridescent, soft and sultry. I’m not a huge fan of NYX but I do like some of their products from time to time, this is now one of them. I sometimes get sloppy with loose powders and it’s always worse when the color is so dark but when I can keep my spastic-ness under control for a few seconds, this loose shadow works really well. Not something I would use everyday and definitely not a product I feel I need every color of but I will enjoy these while they last.

Be A Bombshell Lip GlossHOT MESS – There really isn’t a whole lot to say about this gloss other than that I love it. The color and coverage is fab and I’ve used this almost every day since my bag arrived at my door.

This is the product I’ve been able to play with the most from this month’s Ipsy Glam Bag and I’ve determine that I prefer the way this gloss looks and applies when I’ve prepped my pout with Soft Lips (found in just about every store that sells ChapStik). I use Soft Lips by itself but I also use it as a sort-of lip primer and this gloss works a lot better in conjunction with the Soft Lips (or some other lip balm).

Finally, I wanted to give you a peek at the bag itself:

That’s a wrap! Ipsters receive special discounts on these feature products this month when purchased on their company sites. Ipsy provided coupon codes with this month’s bag. (Yet another reason it’s completely and totally worth it to be an Ipsy subscriber.)
