MegaCon Orlando 2016 – Saturday

IMG_7380

Yesterday, I shared with you my photos from Friday at MegaCon Orlando 2016. Today, I’m sharing my Saturday pics and highlights!

So, I’d been working really hard on my “Glam Vader” (or Lady Vader if you prefer) for a while. Saturday, I was absolutely exhausted from sleepless nights working on the costume, driving to and from Orlando on Friday while running on barely any sleep (I worked both Friday and Saturday night and I don’t leave work until well after 4am most nights…) So as much as I had planned on waking at the crack of dawn again, I totally slept in. When I woke up I was upset but cranky and still very tired and for a while was just like “I’m not going. Its crazy to drive two hours up, walk around for a few hours and then drive back down to change and go to work… Its crazy,.. I overslept, I’m not going.” I alerted the friends I was planning on hanging with for the day and they understood… But then I talked to Sarah (Daenerys) and she was like “Fuck it! Go.” And just like that, I changed my attitude, grabbed my gear and hopped on the road.

I’m so happy I did. I didn’t attend any of the events or Q&As I was planning on attending and Saturday was so packed with people I didn’t even see most of my friends in attendance. I met up with Chris again and we stormed the floor in our Star Wars gear. He introduced me to his friends and they let me tag along and take pics with them while I was there. I may have only been at the con for a few hours but in that time I met some really amazing people and fellow cosplayers AND…. I met Michelle Gomez, Missy from Doctor Who on the main floor! She couldn’t take a photo with me bc its against the rules and she was avoiding attention but I got to speak with her very briefly and she was an absolute doll. She even gave me a pretty solid wink. As if that wasn’t enough, I completely lost my fangirl mind when I spotted one of my favorite cosplayers and my geek-chic inspiration, Victoria aka ScruffyRebel. She walked by and I said “Scruffy?” She immediately turned and as I introduced myself she knew exactly who I am from our past interactions on Instagram and whatnot. I was floored! She took a few pics with me and gushed about how she likes my hair and my cosplays and my nerdy fashion choices. It made my day!!

Saturday, although a short one for me, I managed to stop by the booths of all my con-friends to show the love I didn’t get to show on Friday. I’m so glad I made the drive! (And the large blister on my foot that I later worked on my feet dealing with was worth it too!) Here’s the photo evidence of awesomeness!

MegaCon Orlando 2016 – Friday

IMG_7284

I’m finally getting around to posting about my weekend at MegaCon Orlando 2016! I have to specify “Orlando” because, as of this year, there will be MegaCon Tampa! And who is the #1 beautiful face on the poster advertising the inaugural year for this con?! DAVID TENNANT! Be still my heart and may my pockets be plentiful because I am absolutely attending, absolutely meeting David, absolutely paying for the photo op, I’M DOING IT ALL!! I HAVE to…

But that’s not until October. Let’s focus on the now… or the then… when “then” was last weekend… you get the point.

Friday, my sister and I attended as, yep, the Tenth Doctor and Mother of Dragons, Breaker of Chains, yadda yadda yadda, Daenerys from Game of Thrones. Sarah was quite the fan-favorite and I acted as handler for her a lot throughout the day. Of course, there was plenty of Whovian love abound and I got to meet some really fun people! We also met up with a good friend of ours and 4th Doctor cosplayer, Chris. I had such a blast!

Early in the day we attended the Phelps Twins’ (Fred and George Weasley) Q&A which was a lot of fun as expected. Later, we got to meet and take a photo with Billie Piper (Rose-mother f’ing-Tyler, people!) She was so nice and warm and welcoming that after our photo when Sarah and I were discussing just how cool and friendly she was, I totally cried… yep. She really is one of the nicest people I’ve ever paid to meet. I just want to get drunk with her and hang out; she seems like she’s be a blast to chill with.

Friday was a really fun day so here’s all my pictures from the day.

Thanks for reading! I’ll post about my MegaCon Saturday experience tomorrow!

Harley Quinn & Joker Photo Shoot

After sharing my recent Tenth Doctor photo shoot with you guys yesterday, I’d like to share another recent photo shoot! Mitch Kloorfain, a good friend and photographer, did a fun shoot with me and my friend and fellow Treasure Coast Cosplayer, Lazaro (IG: @cosplay_in_the_usa). I rocked the Harley Quinn costume I had made for my friend for last year’s Treasure Coast Comic Con and I added/subtracted a few of the details to make it more “me”; Lazaro was a fantastic Joker, as he always is.

Thanks for taking a look!

Guess WHO’s Back?!

It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted! The past 6-7 months have been filled with a lot of really fun times, costuming & cosplaying and some pretty epic personal events. There’s also been some heart-breaking and traumatic shit that shook down; some of the key players in my life have been fired from set and some of the guest stars are now leading lads and ladies. I’ve had the good fortune of outlets and opportunities opening up all around me that allow me to do the things I love with people I love and I couldn’t be happier.

So, back to work!

As I play a pretty intense game of catch-up, I’m going to start with a post showcasing some photos a photographer friend of mine, Phil Gladys, recently took of one of my Tenth Doctor Cosplays! I’m so excited about these photos and I hope you’ll take a look!

Thanks for reading. You can look forward to lots of new material over the next several weeks!

D.I.Y. – Cosplay Shoes

Today, I spent the day working on shoes for the Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn costumes I’ve designed for an upcoming comic con in my area. I want to share how I transformed two old pairs of shoes into villainous footwear with a little spray paint. Here’s the paint I used:

I started by taping off the shoes anywhere I didn’t want paint to reach. I used small pieces of tape, mostly, and spent a lot of time and care doing this. Putting in the time during this step really pays off in the end. For the Poison Ivy heels, I taped off the entire bottom of each shoe (I taped off another section later.) The Harley Quinn boots posed a slight challenge when I was deciding exactly how I wanted to spray them. I decided to only spray the tops of the boots with her signature diamond pattern bringing the red into the black lower half. (This way I wouldn’t have to spray over the zipper or buckles.)

I used newspaper to section off the bottom of the boots and protect the inside of the heels.

I used a pool noodle, cut in half, and more newspaper to steady the boots for spraying. I sprayed each pair of shoes with two thin coats of their respective base color allowing about 40 minutes of dry time between coats.

Next, I sprayed each shoe with two thin coats of glitter spray paint. Again, I allowed about 40 minutes between coats. (Before praying with glitter, I taped off the platform and heel on the Poison Ivy pair to achieve a two toned finish.)

Once completely dry, I sprayed each shoe with the glitter spray clear sealer and let dry. Finally, I carefully removed all the tape and admired my work. I also glued some of the ivy leaves from the rest of the Poison Ivy costume to the front of each green heel.

There you have it! Completely transformed a couple of old shoes into brilliant costume pieces. The techniques used here don’t have to be applied strictly to cosplay projects; you can jazz up any old pair of shoes however you’d like!

Thanks for reading! I can’t wait to post pictures of each costume once they’re  completed!
