Surfs Up! :: Influenster VoxBox

photo

Recently, I signed up with the Influenster community and was selected to receive June’s VoxBox, Surfs Up. In case you don’t already know, Influenster is an online community where members share their thoughts and reviews on beauty and lifestyle products. Members are selected to receive VoxBoxes full of free sample products to try out. Being a Florida girl, I guess Influenster thought June’s Surfs Up VoxBox would be a good fit for me since it’s all about having fun in the sun while remaining healthy and beautiful.

I initially filmed an unboxing video (which I will share below) but now that I’ve had the chance to give all these products a proper try I’d like to report my findings. So here goes:

  • Jamba Juice Smoothie Kit – I received a coupon for a FREE Jamba Juice Smoothie Kit as well as a second coupon for $1 off of another kit. I looked for these at my local Publix but didn’t see them so I haven’t been able to try these kits out. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for them.
  • Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration After Sun Lotion – I’ve been using this lotion after days having fun in the sun since receiving this sample bottle and I really do quite like it. This lotion smells like coconut and papaya which is really nice. It applies and hydrates nicely without feeling heavy or greasy. I’ll most likely continuing purchasing this one in the future in replace of my usual after sun aloe gel-lotion. This one combines “ribbons” of gel and lotion; the perfect combination.
  • First Aid Shot Therapy – This liquid pain reliever was very useful and effective at fighting a serious bout of cramps this month. Quick and easy, it did the trick. I doubt I’ll go out of my way to find a purchase these again though.
  • SinfulColors Professional Nail Polish – I received #10 Aqua. I’ve purchased SinfulColors many times in the past from my local Walgreens so it’s safe to say that I’m a fan of this brand. They apply and cover well but aren’t extremely resilient to chipping. Great for vastly expanding your nail color arsenal at only $1.99 a bottle but as a bartender working with my hands, I try to go for higher-end polishes that have passed my harsh professional conditions tests.
  • Covergirl Bombshell Curvaceous by Lashblast Mascara – I’m not a fan of Covergirl mascaras. In fact, I’m not a fan of Covergirl at all. I find their products to be the lowest of quality and this mascara was no different. I’m not particularly picky about mascaras and try a lot of different brands with various styles of wands and I haven’t been this disappointed/unimpressed with a mascara in a long while. This mascara has dual wands, one for curling and the second for intensifying. The first brush is curved and promises to add thickness and volume but I noticed neither. The second side has a straight brush that is expected to “seal” the look like a topcoat for lashes. This is just stupid. Both wands are so short that it makes application quite awkward and I doubt the formula for side one and two is different. If they are two different formulas, my apologies for my ignorance but this crap still does’t work well. My lashes looked like I barely applied any mascara at all unless I applied coat after coat after coat and it ran from basic daily functioning giving me black raccoon eyes (and not the glamorous sexy kind). Skip this mascara.

Thanks for reading! I’m excited to find out what Influenster has in store for me in the future! Below I’m sharing my unboxing video. This is my very first video!!! I cringe while watching it and have a list a mile long of mental notes for future videos but I’d still like to share it with you anyway. (Be gentle in your judging of my videography, please!)

Thanks again! Love, GK

Strega Nona at The Lyric Theater

Today I worked wardrobe for a children’s musical “Strega Nona” based on the children’s book. I mostly steamed a bunch of the player’s costumes and made a few repairs. (Although, I was needed on headset stage left, briefly, at the beginning of each show, which I wasn’t expecting.) I had a lot of fun and I felt adorable (and quite comfy) in my outfit for the day.

The Navy Blue T was ordered from Forever 21 for like $4 or something.
I also ordered the Navy Blue beret from Forever 21. $2.50, I believe.
The Silver Satchel is Sag Harbor, which I bought at Ross for about $15.

I don’t know where I acquired my gray cardigan,
but it’s little pearl buttonsare my favorite part of it.
I wore my Navy Blue and White Polka Dot ballet flats.
I don’t remember where or when I bought these either
.

I found this clock necklace at Target yesterday! I love it! I just wish it actually worked.

Makeup: I used blue, gray and silver to accomplish my smoky eye of the day. I used an Almay Blue Eyeshadow Trio, Covergirl brown eye pencil and Maybelline Great Lash mascara in blackest black. I added a little shimmer with Mica Bella Mineral Cosmetics.

To accomplish the rest of my face for the day I used my Maybelline Pure Makeup Liquid Foundation and Maybelline Mineral Powder liquid concealer, as always, along with Covergirl powder.

What I wore yesterday…

So yesterday, while Maid-of-Honor’ing it about town, I had on one of my favorite new outfits:

Olive Green T – Forever 21 – $4
Olive Green Loose Cardigan – Forever 21 – $10
Brown Suede Bongo Boots
(I ♥ these boots. These boots took me up and down the Sunset Strip including The Whiskey A Go-Go in West Hollywood, Los Angeles)
Purple Nine West Purse – Ross – $14.99 clearance

The Long necklace I ordered from Forever 21
The Lucky charm necklace was a gift from my friend Jill.

For my make-up I chose a very neutral look of browns and golds.

Neutral Smoky Eye.
The neutral brown and gold tones always look great on Gingers.

To complete this look, I used the following:

Maybelline Pure Makeup Liquid Foundation.
Maybelline Mineral Powder Liquid Concealer (damn under eye circles)
Covergirl Powder
Rimmel – 4 Shade Eye Shadow
Covergirl Brown Eye Pencil
Maybelline Blackest Black Great Lash (My Staple Mascara)
For my lips I simple used Soft Lips

True Blood Vampire Party

Tonight, Kacie, Nicki, Danielle and I attended the True Blood Vampire party at Privilege Night Club. We had a blast and were invited onto the “V.I.P. Couch” (laughable, I know) by a bunch of people buying bottles.

Anytime I get the opportunity to wear my corset, I’m happy.

I wore my corset with a cheetah print Express skirt that I’ve had forever.
It’s much longer, but I just pulled it up under the corset.
I also got to wear my “Spartan heels” which I was also very happy about.

My makeup for the night was pretty awesome if I do say so.

I did a classic red lip and a very dark smoky eye with red on the inside of the eyelid.
To acheive this look I used the following:

As usual, I started with Maybelline Pure Makeup Liquid Foundation
and Maybelline Mineral Powder Liquid concealer.
I used Maybelline Lash Stilleto Liquid Liner in Blackest Black
as well as Maybelline Lash Stiletto Blackest Black Mascara.
On my lips I used Covergirl’s Outlast Red Lip Color.
