December 2012 :: Ipsy Glam Bag :: Haute Holidays

Here it is! My review of my December 2012 Ipsy Glam Bag and it’s another winner! This is only my second Ipsy delivery and this bag is just as fantastic as my first one, last month. (Have I mentioned how completely happy I am that I dropped Birchbox for Ipsy?) This month’s theme is Haute Holidays and the goodies inside this bag are the perfect additions to your holiday look particularly if you like a dark smokey eye and bold red lips! Ow-Ow!!!

First up is the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil – ZERO –  I really like this pencil. It remind me of the L’Oreal Liquid Pencil but it lasts a bit longer without making its way down your lower lids. There’s nothing worse than an eye pencil that you have to really work to get enough coverage (cough cough, CoverGirl) but this pencil does not give you that problem.

Also from Urban Decay, I received a sample of their Naked Skin Beauty Balm – Feels lovely. Has SPF 20. Helps repair skin over time and it’s oil free. This is just my kind of BB. Loved this extra in the Glam Bag this month.

Mai Couture Highlighter Papier – I haven’t had a chance to use these yet but I think the idea is fabulous. I will most definitely write a followup about how much I love/hate these later on. This sample gave me 25 sheets to use which is pretty generous in my opinion.

Mirabella Prime for face & eyes – SHAKE BEFORE USE. This should definitely be somewhere on the bottle and packaging. (maybe it is and I overlooked it the first time) There seems to be some significant separation when it sits, so make sure to shake this baby before using.

I gave this try on my face and my eyes. As a face primer, it seems to do the trick but then again, when I used it, it was late at night and I just wanted to get a feel for this before reviewing, so I didn’t leave my makeup on for very long after. Whether or not this will help your foundation stay put for an entire day is still yet to be determined (by me at least). As an eyeshadow primer, I didn’t like this. In fact, I feel like it did the opposite and make my shadow wipe off easier. I like that it contains Vitamin E and helps smooth wrinkles and protect skin, but I’ve used better primers with similar benefits that I like much more than this one. Not a winner for me.

Ipsy gave me, not one, but two of the NYX Ultra Pearl Mania Loose Pearl ShadowBLACK PEARL – Great for that smokey holiday eye. Iridescent, soft and sultry. I’m not a huge fan of NYX but I do like some of their products from time to time, this is now one of them. I sometimes get sloppy with loose powders and it’s always worse when the color is so dark but when I can keep my spastic-ness under control for a few seconds, this loose shadow works really well. Not something I would use everyday and definitely not a product I feel I need every color of but I will enjoy these while they last.

Be A Bombshell Lip GlossHOT MESS – There really isn’t a whole lot to say about this gloss other than that I love it. The color and coverage is fab and I’ve used this almost every day since my bag arrived at my door.

This is the product I’ve been able to play with the most from this month’s Ipsy Glam Bag and I’ve determine that I prefer the way this gloss looks and applies when I’ve prepped my pout with Soft Lips (found in just about every store that sells ChapStik). I use Soft Lips by itself but I also use it as a sort-of lip primer and this gloss works a lot better in conjunction with the Soft Lips (or some other lip balm).

Finally, I wanted to give you a peek at the bag itself:

That’s a wrap! Ipsters receive special discounts on these feature products this month when purchased on their company sites. Ipsy provided coupon codes with this month’s bag. (Yet another reason it’s completely and totally worth it to be an Ipsy subscriber.)

Bealls Beauty Bounty

The other day, while doing some bargain hunting, I came across some pretty awesome finds. The store was Bealls Outlet (we have Bealls and Bealls Outlet down here in Florida; it’s similar to  Kohls, Belk, etc.) and I scored some great beauty products on the cheap! None of the products were past expiration and although I may not have been on the hunt for these specifically, I will definitely have some fun with them.

First up: e.l.f. Get the Look 5 piece smoky eye set. This includes: mascara, liquid liner, eyeshadow brush, lash curler and 3 shadow pallet (dark grey, navy blue and black). I believe I only paid $5.99 for this (maybe $6.99).

Next: I picked up a “my perfect picks” nail polish duo set by essie. These picks were picked for the holidays last year (2011) but I still think the colors are pretty… pretty.

Small bottles, but the colors I got in the set were a nude-ish neutral, “Jazz” and a very pretty soft purple, “St Lucie Lilac”. I believe I only paid $3.99… (I should’ve made better note on these prices.)

Finally, my favorite score of the haul: a powder compact by Korress. I’ve enjoyed Korress products in the past and when I spotted this for a mere $2.99, I threw it in my basket without hesitation.

As you can see in the first image, I also snagged a couple of pairs of falsies. ($1.99 each).

That’s all for this haul! Check back soon because I will be posting my December Ipsy Glam Bag review (got it in the mail yesterday!!!) I also have a GlossyBox to review as well as some absolutely fan-freaking-tastic sets I ordered from Sephora! (I can’t wait to share with you all the details of my most recent cosmetics shopping spree!!!)

November 2012 GlossyBox Review (super late, I know. But I didn’t receive it until Dec 3rd.)

December 2012 GlossyBox Review (whenever I receive it)

AND MORE!!!!! It’s been a super busy last few weeks with all my makeup over-spending and shopping for gifts for people besides myself. The site is still under construction and my OCD is really getting at me about this. (Got to get back on track!) I hope you’ll check back soon for some awesome posts!

November 2012 :: Ipsy Glam Bag :: Party Perfect

My very first Ipsy Glam Bag!! I am so excited to post this just as I was so excited to receive these fantastic goodies. For the same monthly subscription fee as the-box-that-shall-not-be-named, Ipsy packs your delightful little cosmetics bag with true deluxe samples! I can’t wait, so let’s dive straight in!

Dah-Dah-Dah-DAAAAHHH. My November 2012 Ipsy Bag! And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the five products I received!

Nailtini :: Nail Lacquer :: Millionaire – A full size bottle of nail polish? You sure know how to win this girl over, Ipsy! As my readers know, I am a complete nail polish junkie and this positively peppy glitter coat from Nailtini is perfect for fun, holiday nails. Gold and Teal flecks of glitter reflect pinks, blues, purples and of course GOLD. Covers really well with a substantial amount of glitter. If you are looking to add a hint of glitz, this is not your polish. The same makers have lines called Liptini and Eyetini as well and I’d love to give some of those products a try!

The Balm Cosmetics :: Meet Matt(e) Eyeshadow :: Matt Batali – This is my first experience with any of the products from The Balm Cosmetics. First impression: I adore their kitschy, 50’s nostalgia inspired packaging. This line of matte eyeshadows has fun with their names and each color in the line is named “Matt ____”. Matt Batali is a dark, smokey, purpley-brown-grey… best way to describe the color… and I do love a nice smokey eye so I will use this baby up! The packaging is cute with a magnetic close hidden away in there somewhere so the sample snaps shut when you’re not using it.

bareMinerals :: Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss :: Dare Devil – This isn’t my first experience with a Marvelous Moxie gloss. I’m actually a huge fan so receiving this is just awesome! This is a product that I would/have/will buy so I was thrilled when it was included in my November 2012 Ipsy bag. This color is Dare Devil and it is a beautiful, glossy, merlot-esque color, perfect for mine and many complexions.

Starlet Cosmetics :: Intensen Eyeliner :: Chocolate – Apparently, this is NOT a full size sample. (Seems full size to me.) Its a chocolate brown pencil and I will put this to some real good use. When I use a pencil to line my lids, I usually opt for brown. (Liquids I usually use black and “fun” colors). Great for everyday wear. It applies smooth and stays put all day. I’d never heard of Starlet Cosmetics before but now that they are on my radar, I will certainly consider buying more of their pencils in the future.

This month, each Ipster received one of two other samples along with the above featured. They either received the Chella Eyebrow Defining Gel or the product I received:

benefit :: They’re Real beyond mascara – a highly coveted item this month, I was very pleased to find this mascara sample tucked inside my Ipsy bag. Although, I would have been happy to receive the brow gel, when I received the email about the two choices, I was hoping to receive the mascara. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to try the Chella brow gel in a future bag!

That was it. My very first Ipsy Bag! I can’t wait for my December bag! I am so pleased that I have cancelled my Birchbox subscription and signed up for Ipsy. I’m a very, VERY happy beauty subscriber. Way to hit it out of the park, Ipsy! And thanks to the other bloggers whose Ipsy review posts pushed me to sign up.

I just love how simply-detailed all these are. So beautiful. I thought I’d pass these pics along for the enjoyment of all of you! Hope you like! and I hope you’re inspired to get a little creative with your own makeup!

1940s Style

Since today is the 69th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, I wanted to share a little bit about one of my favorite eras of fashion, the 1940s, and how I mimic the style.

A classic cut dress is always in style. Pencial and A-Line skirts are a definite. Some of the vintage clothing sites I obsessively peruse include:

Some of my current favorites on StopStaringClothing.com:

I love too many of them! They’re “everyday” costumes! ♥

Round-toe pumps & peep-toe pumps are definitely 1940s style!

♥ Christian Louboutin… ♥
Someday… someday.

And, lets just take a moment to appreciate these: Peep toe and covered in studs!

A sexy winged cat eye is perfect for 1940s style. Liquid liner is the way to go.

And if you are going all-out anyway, get a set of false lashes… glam all the way.

Just don’t go crazy with a bunch of colored shadows. Allow the liner to make the statement. Light, Neutral shadows are best.

And, (my favorite,) the classic red lip is a no-brainer choice when topping off your 1940s makeup.

Although a subtle eye is usually encouraged with red lips, when paired with the totally not subtle cat eyes, it is perfectly acceptable.

If you’re really going all out, search YouTube for 1940s hair tutorials, there are some really cute and easy ones on there.
