Kate Crate – Unboxing

This is a really special post for me. I want to share with you guys an unboxing video of the FIRST EVER in the history of ever KATE CRATE!! One of my good friends, Fourth Doctor Cosplayer and my MegaCon buddy, Chris was thoughtful enough to create a personalized Kate Crate and send it my way. His one condition was that I film an unboxing video so, of course, I complied.

I’ve been experiencing kind of a rough time recently and a very special select few of my friends have been in my corner and helping me through. Receiving this Kate Crate is a really important moment of light during a pretty dark period for me. I cannot say “Thank you!” enough, Chris for doing this for me!

Now that I have received my Kate Crate, I am on a mission to put together a pretty fantastic Chris Crate to send in return! And, who knows? Maybe this Kate Crate/Chris Crate will become a “thing” and I’ll get to share with you guys future videos about them!!

Thanks for reading! If you don’t already, please subscribe. You can also see what kind of nerdy fun I’m getting into on my cosplay page on Facebook: GingerKate Cosplay. You can also (and I would so very much appreciate it if you would) follow me on Instagram @gkcosplay (I’m also @gingerkate). I have links to all that great stuff on the side bar so please show me some love and support and I will always return the favor in kind. I hope you guys enjoy my Kate Crate Unboxing video… It turned into kind of a long one but I was having too much fun blabbering on about all the items and some other random thoughts that popped into my brain and immediately out of my mouth while filming.

*And, yeah… before any of you call me out… I refer to a White Walker (from Game of Thrones) as an Ice Warrior (from Doctor Who)… deal with it.*

Thanks again for reading and watching!

Orlando Shenanigans

A week later, I’m finally getting the time to post about my recent trip to Orlando. One of my friends was visiting home from Chicago, where she currently lives, and we decided to make the short drive north to Orlando where one of my other friends lives with his fella.

With a rad playlist ready to go, she and I hit the road Monday afternoon. Upon arrival, Nicki, Ron and I jumped headfirst into some liquor and shared the night catching up and then painting for a while. There was also a small, impromptu photo session with Ron’s huge clock.

When Nicki and I first checked into La Hotel De Ron & Brad, Ron had gifts waiting for us in the guest bedroom. For me: Ron framed prints of a series of paintings he had done that are inspired by Harry Potter and the four house uniforms. So adorable! I can’t wait to hang them!

Now, speaking of Harry Potter, Ron and Brad were able to arrange for us to explore the new section of The Wizarding World at Universal, Diagon Alley, on Tuesday. That post is set for tomorrow so check back to take a peek at my first time visiting Diagon Alley! -yes, I cried.

Tuesday night, we all enjoyed some good wine followed by a fun evening at Universal’s City Walk. We had dinner at Jimmy Buffet’s Margarittaville (which was actually quite disappointing) and then drank and sang karaoke with a live band at Rising Star. A fantastic couple of days with a couple of fantastic people.

PS – Last night, my sister and I saw Guardians of the Galaxy. I thought it was amazing! I really loved it. (I went into it knowing next to nothing about the comics though.) I didn’t even think Zoe Saldana was as horrible as she usually is compared to Amy-Stupid-Pond’s desperate reach at acting. I didn’t even believe her when she was just standing there. On a sexy note: when did Andy Dwyer get so ripped and dreamy? And, of course, I’d be remiss not to mention Mr. Sexy-face Pie Man as Super Douche.

Third Eye Blind in Ft Lauderdale

Tonight, my two friends Kacie and Chelsea and I rocked out in Ft Lauderdale at Club Revolution to Third Eye Blind.

The show was amazing!! Those boys have definitely still got it! I was able to bribe a security guard and scored my friends and I prime location spots directly next to the stage! [dusts dirt off my shoulder]. If there is one thing I’m good at it’s making the most of opportunities at rock shows. Our view was perfect and our experience amazing! Another special skill of mine: taking impeccable concert photos!

Below are a few shots from the show!

Cheers! To a New Year

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

2012 is kaput and 2013 is here! A year ago, I was overwhelmed by a feeling of a fantastic year ahead. I was optimistic and just knew 2012 would be an absolutely amazing year!

…it kind of sucked.

Not all of it, of course, and in the wake of all the emotional disasters and havoc-ridden happenings I learned and grew and became a better, more developed person… Not that I needed any of that anyway; I’m flippin’ awesome and have been since ’87. … Oh, God, I turn 26 this year.

The sucky stuff definitely sucked. I’m still feeling the aftershocks and sometimes I do get frustrated with the reverb. It does seem to, in deed, diminish “over time”, however, so I anticipate it eventually fading out. The awesome stuff resonates just as powerfully and increases; I doubt I’ll ever shake that wake and I would never want to.

Long story short: On New Years Day 2012, the greatness I felt rising upon the horizon wasn’t without its traumas but to be able to dance in the ripples like a skipped stone certainly feels great.

Kate the Great! That’s how I feel about 2013. A rebirth… sort of. Not in the recovered junkie sort of way but more like a major medical discovery. I have so much more to apply to life. And if there’s one thing I’ve always known about myself and really came in handy in 2012 it’s my resilience and ability to adapt so whatever traumas 2013 may hold, I’ll come out on top. A Phoenix that will rise above the ashes every time… and hotter. I’m just as optimistic about the upcoming year as I was last year but this time, I know better than ever that anything can happen, good or bad. Regardless of which, you ride it out.

Time in a Bottle

Today, it was rather chilly in South Florida. It was beautiful and I required sand and shells for a Christmas gift project I’m working on for one of my best friends (she’s moving to Chicago and will miss the beach so I’m making her a jar of beach to take with her) so I took a trip to the beach.

Growing up on Long Island, my family used to walk to the beach during cold weather fairly often. When most people think “beautiful beach day” they think hot sun and tanning oil; I think of days like today.

I’m in total Doctor Who Christmas special mode right now and my choice in cold weather attire seemed to reflect companion style. (I just wish I didn’t have that gross ciggie in my hand.) Here’s what I wore:
