Irish

Early Out and About

My first week at the radio station has come to an end. An unexpectedly quick end. My manager dismissed my newly hired coworker and I before noon so our weekend got started nice and early!

For my last day of my first week, I wore the tan trousers I wore on Wednesday and paired them with a simple white t and my new, royal blue, cropped jacket.

The jacket was purchased last weekend at Ross, on clearance, for $8.49. It’s by HAVE. (? I have never heard of them…)

I broke out the LV Speedy 25 since I’ve been switching up bags more frequently than usual this week. Go big or go home right?

I havent worn these red polka-dot shoes by Guess in a very long time because of the pointed toe (which I havent really been “feeling” over the last several years) but I think with the loose-fit and wide cut trousers, the pointed toes look pretty good.

I opted for the high, loose, messy bun with the thin headband for my hair again today.

I wore a funky little key pin on my jacket for fun. The key was part of a set that I bought a couple of months ago when I made some necklaces using an identical pin.

I also accessorized with pearls and my usual jingle. Also, my watch and my claddagh ring and my silver ring with the (native american) turquoise bear claw on it.

It was so nice to get home early and spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing (and blogging!)

Thanks for reading! I hope I can keep up with my Daily Threads the way I’ve always wanted to! I suppose we shall see with time.

Thanks again! Love, GK

This was one of the photos I was rejecting but I think my little Doodle-Bear, Jack Daniels, looks so adorable. He was curious about what I was doing home so early and why I was ignoring him while taking my photos.

With A Bow On Top

It’s been too long since I’ve posted my Daily Threads and even then, I wasn’t very good at consistently posting them. I’d like to try and get better at this… I guess we’ll see how that goes. If nothing else, I want to at least feature non-workday ensembles and there’s no better time than the present!

Here’s what I wore today:

I love my new floral tank that I picked up at Ross for $8.99. Paired with my Billabong jean shorts, you can barely tell I have shorts on at all (that’s why I included the second picture). It should be no surprise that I wore my brown Sanuk flip flops… I live in those things.

I actually wore less bracelets than usual. I wore a plain silver chain, an earth-tone beaded bracelet and my Alex & Ani Star of Venus bangle.

Rings: my claddagh, heart turned out, and one of my newest acquisitions, a costume piece, that’ll probably turn real quick. I got it from one of the guests at the hotel who practically forced each of us to take a few pieces. I thought this one was pretty awesome though and so do my guy friends for some reason. The first time I wore this ring, each of the guys, at different times without knowing each other also asked, asked to wear this ring… it was strange.

I wore one of my favorite headbands too! I ordered it from ASOS, I forget how much it was.

I wore, simply, a shamrock on a short silver chain around my neck and spritzed myself with Clinique Happy Heart (one of my absolute favorite perfumes!)

Well that’s it. A casual, summer outfit to sit poolside with the family.

Thanks for reading! Love, GK

Tax Exempt Shopping Day #2

Take 2!!
I was still on the look-out for professional slacks, but still none that fit my shape very well. Also, I don’t like how all the slacks out there are like wearing parachute pants for crying out loud. I wanted a few slim pairs of woman’s trousers. By the end of today, I pretty much had to just buy whatever was in the store.
But not before giving into the temption to buy a new pair of jeans!
the Gap
Long & Lean Jeans $59.50, $20 off – $39.50

Here are the best compromises I could make in the slacks department.

                      JC Penney                            Body Central
                                                                                                                                         (formerly, The Body Shop)
    $16.99 each – Black & Brown Slacks     $19.80 each Tan/Sandy & Grey/Black Slacks
                  by Star City                                                   by Flirtation

And I needed another pair of professional, business appropriate heels.

Marshall’s … again
$22.00 – Unisa Black Peep-Toe Heels *CLEARANCE*

I wish I could have dropped all that money over the last two days on “fun” fashions. But duty calls and I want to do really well at my new job. In marketing, appearance makes a huge difference so you know I gotta look good! (I’m not convinced that will happen in those slacks.)

I was feeling my awesome Irish heritage today so here’s what I wore out and about today:

Daily Threads:

  • Dropkick Murphys T
  •
  • Billabong Jean Shorts
  •
  • B Makowsky Black Leather Purse
  •
  • Sanuk Flip Flops

Jewelry:
Celtic inspired jewelry including my Lucky Brand Four Leaf Clover Watch, My Silver Celtric Cross Necklace, and my Irish symbols anklet…. and I just love my little snake ring so I had to were it too!

It wasn’t until the end of the night when my roommate Kacie pointed out that Casey and I were both wearing Irish Ts! Oh well, we must have looked like matching dorks all day.

Back to work tomorrow after this exhausting weekend. I’ve got several long LONG days this week too. 😦 and on top of all my responsibilities at work, all those wonderful opportunities I hinted at in yesterday’s post require a lot of creative thought, time, and effort on my behalf… but I do whatever it takes to pursue my artistic endeavors… SO EXCITING!!!

Wedding Day!!!

Today was AMAZING! Shannon walked down the aisle at 11:30am and since noon we’ve been partying our butts off!

It was so amazing watching my little sister, looking absolutely breath-taking, walk down to the shore where her husband-to-be waited, both with tears in their eyes. We walked down the aisle to Train’s song “Marry Me” and exited to Queen’s “You’re My Best Friend”. It was very emotional.

As part of the ceremony, each person in attendance said a prayer or projectedpositive energy into a river stone and then we all threw they in the water for the Bride and Groom. It’s an ancient Gaelic tradition, usually incorporated in wrist-binding ceremonies. (Hey, we ARE Irish.)

About half of our family from Long Island were able to make it down for the celebration and we are one family that knows just how to drink and party! We were dancin’ fools out there all day! I think I’ve burned more calories today than I have all year.

Shannon shared her first dance with her new husband to Reba McIntyre’s “I’ll Be There” and her Daddy Daughter dance was to Tim McGraw’s “My Little Girl”. (I’m not a fan of country music usually, but these songs both just made me bawl my eyes out!) I had to make a special request for The Four Season’s song “Who Loves You” so all three of us could dance with our Dad. He always says “Who loves you?” and he is, in deed, always there to make things right. (Now I’m crying…) He’s such an amazing man who has always done right by my Mom and his three girls. I can’t even begin to explain everything our Dad has done and continues to do for all of us. He is so loved.

One of my closest friends, Sean, bartended for the day and did a fabulous job. In fact, my family loves him now! I’m glad his wife and baby girl were willing to spare their Daddy for the afternoon AND Sean recently found out that he and his wife are expecting their second child! Wooo Hooo!!!! Congratulations Sean, Jessica and Little Lily! So happy for your growing family.

I could go on and on about just how wonderful today and this entire weekend has been, but a picture says a thousand words, so take a look for yourself at just how amazing it was. (PS: I made all the starfish hairclips you’ll see)

Congratulations Shannon and Artie. I love you both! Enjoy Mexico! Ole!

You can see she’s trying not to cry yet.
I pretty much cried the entire time.
So beautiful!

“Who loves you pretty baby? Who’s always there to make it right”
“Daddy.”
Their cake was DELICIOUS! Butterrum (Blue) and Lemon (Yellow). Mmmmm…
I can’t remember the last time I had that great of a day!
I HAD to snap this one!
There’s always time for a family pic while shakin’ your ass on the floor!
Such a happy bride!
I don’t know what the heck we were dancing to here… but we look on point for sure!
Bartenders! My Best Friends!
I had to change after we took our pics down playing in the water.
So adorable!
(may they live) happily ever after.

"I’m Not A Coward I’ve Just Never Been Tested"

Sh*t is getting cra-zy.

“The Libyans!”  – Doctor Emmett Lathrop “Doc” Brown
I’m pretty sure Japan is like “WTF guys?”
If you have no clue what’s going on, please go read something.

On a more personal note: I came inches away from being in a full-on bar brawl on St Pats. Allow me to illustrate.

I’m at the jukebox picking out songs and two women come up behind me, waiting to pick a few songs as well. One of these women is extremely intoxicated, and why not? it’s St Patrick’s Day…

Now, I had heard some drunk bitch screaming earlier, so when this chick starts up, I assume it’s been her.

“Hey! hey! Can we pick too?!”
“Yes. I’m going to pick my two more credits, then you can go.”

Her friend looks mortified and exhausted and tells her to be quiet and tells me to take my time. But as I was finishing telling her to wait, the drunk one is already screaming

“Hey! She’s the girl from the movie! Shes that girl!”

Her friend is still telling her to shut the fuck up.

As I’m browsing for my next pick(s), my first pick, “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” by Dropkick starts. Drunk bitch, after some shit-talking, immediately says

“This is fucking Dropkick Murphys!”
“Fuck yeah it is!”
I so eloquently reply and throw up a hand for fiver. She obliges and screams,
“I’m from Boston!”

…I resisted informing her of my location of orientation, to avoid the physically contact. The tension was intense. Major bitch vibes being exchanged. Before this pathetic attempt at a friendly connection, this chick has been yelling all sorts of random pushy things to which I’ve retaliated with completely stopping making my selections and staring at her with an “I’m going to F you up” look and by talking at her like a child.

My eager aggression was only exacerbated by the intense intro on “I’m Shipping Up to Boston.” I always thought it would be awesome to get into a fight to this song… could this be my magic moment?

I return to making my last song selection, choosing “Devils Dance Floor” by Flogging Molly… yeah.

Now, D.B’s friend has been telling her to back off and shut the hell up this whole time because the few quotes I provided are not even the tip of this conversational iceberg. Have I mentioned that she’s been screaming crazy shit this whole time. Anyway, D.B. suddenly screams,
“I’m gonna kick your ass” and steps toward me pointing her finger.
I turned to face her front on and stepped toward her as well.

I was very impressed with myself! To quote The Mighty Mighty Bosstones “I’m not a coward I’ve just never been tested” and in this case I was, and I passed. Her friend immediately turns to me and in a near plea says
“She’s not going to kick your ass” to which I reply
“It’s cool if she wants to try.” I know. Gangsta sh*t.

At this point Casey comes up along side me… I guess in some way of showing support. He claims it was to prevent me jumping at this bitch. Either way, I nudged him off saying pretty damn loudly,

“I’m TOTALLY cool!”
I felt like the whole bar was watching, but couldn’t look away from this woman. But here’s where her friend grabs D.B. and very sternly and seriously yells
“You have to stop!”
and walked her away. I then heard her tell their other friends “It’s time for her to go home.”
As I walked back to our high top, I have to admit: I was really disappointed that it didn’t escalate. I guess I was just in a fighting Irish kind of mood. I was so down to brawl and I didn’t even have any of my girls with me for back-up. It was the Jack Daniels Badge of Courage. I would consider it an honor to knock some light weight out on St Pats… Maybe next year…
