Jim Morrison

How ’bout these apples?

I had written myself a prescription for some intensive retail therapy and today I had my rx filled. After meeting up with a client/friend/ex-coworker for lunch at (the absolutely delicious and addicting) Dales, I hit up a thrift store where i made some major scores.

– A pair of amazing royal blue suede heels: $5
– An adorable zebra print cardigan: $3 (you all know just how much I love cardigans and zebra print!)
– White and Royal Blue horizontal striped sweater: $6 (it’s really a dress and really quite too thin to be qualified as a sweater-dress and surprising large for a size 4 dress…)

I stopped by TJMaxx after the thrift store score for a bump on my bargain-finding high but left empty handed. I found myself in houndstooth heaven and pined over a Steve Madden bag but decided against buying it. (I have the feeling I’ll regret it. I might actually go back tomorrow for it.)

Driving toward home, I decided I was definitely not going to stop at Marshall’s or Ross. Nope. Just heading home. So of course I turned into the plaza, parked and strutted into Ross looking for more discounted deliciousness. I found it.

In Ross I found a completely adorable, floral print, long sleeve dress, on clearance, for $8.49. Perfect for fall! (It’s hard to describe but pics will be posted as soon as I get a chance to rock this baby.)

I also bought at Ross… … Bright. Red. Jeggings. I never thought I’d say that but I did. I had contemplated red jeans in the past but completely scoffed at jeggings. However, all I could think of was how awesome they will look paired with the huge, size “4”, not-so-sweater [dress] and those blue heels! So i took the plunge and bought the jeggings.

Anyway, theres my shopping tales of the day. Here’s what I wore today (and yesterday):

Red shorts from Forever21, Beatles T and my Apple sunglasses from ASOS.

I thought the Apple Shades and The Beatles T went well together (and not just because of the color).

Yesterday, I was pretty bummed. I wasn’t well, missed an [open] audition I was really psyched about and had to call out of work. I loafed around the house miserably all day, moping, so my fabulous Mom made me (and the rest of the family I supposed) chocolate cupcakes!!

To hide my unpretty for the day, I threw on a fedora and faux specs for the pics. The flower clips in my unwashed, messy bushel of hair make it actually look done. (Curly hair really has its perks.)

That’s all for today. I’m lazily posting from my iPhone again so please excuse the poor quality pics and whatever weird typing issues that may reveal themselves post publishing.

Love, GK

I’d also just like to add that today in rock & roll history, Jim Morrison was arrested for a bogus indecent exposure charge he’d been facing as a result of a March 1, 1969 show in Coconut Grove (Miami) show. He died in Paris on July 3, 1971 before the case had gone to trial. -No need to google, I just know this shit.

Ginger of the Month & Jim Morrison/John Lennon

Happy Birthday Jim Morrison!!!

Today would have been the 67th Birthday of the late, great American rockstar
and poet, frontman of The Doors, Jim Morrison.
He was found dead on July 3rd, 1971 by his long time lover, companion, confidante, and muse, Pamela Courson with whom he spent the last days of his life.

They had a rocky on/off relationship but always ended up coming back to one another. In retaliation to Jim’s frequent infidelities (including a Wiccan marriage), Pamela had several affairs; even so, she is the ultimate Rock and Roll, Ride or Die Woman.

Like Morrison, Pamela has a December birthday (December 22, 1946)
Which is why she is December’s Ginger of the month.

She was the inspiration for many of The Doors songs including:
L.A. Woman
Love Street
Queen of the Highway
Wild Child
We Could Be So Good Together
Orange County Suite
Indian Summer
Blue Sunday
… and more.

In addition to being Jim’s inspiration, it is said that the song Cinnamon Girl by Neil Young is also about Pamela. Neil has never confirmed or denied this.

Pamela died on April 25, 1974 at age 27
(the same age as Jim Morrison and other famous rock stars: Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain and a slue of others… it’s always been intriguing to me.)

December 8th may be the birthday of one of my all-time favorite musicians, but it is also the day another all-time fav of mine died, John Lennon. I wish I could express just how much I love John Lennon and The Beatles, but I can’t. I take comfort, however, in the fact that so many people feel that same love as I do, and there is no need to explain.

John Lennon was, and remains, one of the greats, theres no doubt about it. His songs bring tears to my eyes and a smile to my face each and every time; no matter what I’m feeling, I’m feeling something with every note. December 8th is a day that will “live in infamy” in rock and roll history.

As much as I celebrate the birth and life of Jim Morrison on this day, I also celebrate the life while mourning the death of John Lennon, (and I know I am in good company in doing so). In memorium of John Lennon: Oct 9, 1940-Dec 8, 1980.

Shopping Day! …with my Boyfriend?

Today I enjoyed a much deserved day off from work at the clinic with my boyfriend Casey. He took me to brunch where we got our food to go and eat while we enjoyed the beautiful South Florida weather at a local park. After that we set out on our mission for that day: To buy Casey a new wardrobe… or at least start.

Of course I can never resist shopping and I picked up a few things for myself.

  • I saw this t-shirt at H&M and I had to buy it. All my Jim Morrison gear is worn out or shrunken. I saw it, gasped and immediately ran over to pick out my size. There was no question that it would be mine. –$17.95

While there I saw an adorable rock and roll leather mini skirt and I wanted one! The only one left was the one on the mannequin and it was a 4 so I wanted to strip that baby off and at least try it on. The store was a mad house however and the staff was rude on top of completely stupid… plus, I want to invest in a really nice one.

  • I picked up a pair of bangles on clearance at Target for about $3.
  • At Forever21 (the store was so cluttered and messy, I much prefer just continuing to order from the site) I picked up this adorable Pearl Neckline Top. I just love Pearls! This top is perfect for me. -$17.80
  • And since they were only $1.50 I got this 3 pair pack of “pearl” earrings.

*TIP* I have a HORRIBLE intolerance to cheap jewelry and a nickel allergy. I love funky, original jewelry so when I find fakey pieces I like I used clear nail polish on them. In stead of fighting with green skin and nickel rash, I avoid it by applying a single layer or clear coat on the part of the jewelry that meets my skin. (IE: the inside of rings and the stud on earrings.) IT REALLY WORKS and elongates the life of your cheap jewelry… it doesn’t look so gross so quick.

  • At Marshall’s I picked up this basic, long sleeve T for -$7.99.
  • I got this basic black pencil skirt at Ross for $9.99. (I love pencil skirts… and my last black one has a bumpy “pootch” thing up top.)
  • I also got a sparkly Ava Rose Wristlet for only $5.99! (it’s going to match my Sparkly black Steven Madden pumps perfect!! … when I buy them. 🙂 )

Casey got several button-up Oxfords, Lucky Brand Jeans and Lucky Brand PJ pants. He was a bit disappointed with his haul for the day, be we’ll just have to go shopping again soon! 😉

Trends I’m Dieing to Wear

I am dieing for a sweater dress!
You can pair them with so many other pieces for a really easy, super adorable Fall/Winter look.

I’d really love one in an eggshell or cream color. ♥

Another piece I’m dieing to have in my closet is a Leather Mini… ugh… I’ve wanted one for so long and now, they’re in and everywhere.

Celebs love Leather Minis too!

In addition to my Leather Mini, I’ve always wanted a pair of really tight, rock and roll style Leather pants. A’la Jim Morrison. I will have them one of these days… I will have my Jim Morrison pants!

And a MUST that I NEED, is a tailored blazer. I have a couple of blazers, none of which fit exceptionally well. I need a new one.

And who wouldn’t love a $2Million bra in their lingerie drawer? The Victoria’s Secret Bombshell Fantasy Bra is covered in 3,000 diamonds. Modeled by (my favorite) Victoria’s Secret Model, Adriana Lima, in addition to all those diamonds, this bra is made with 18K White Gold.
So Hot. I would totally switch teams for Adriana.

Oh, and we are now only 6 days away from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!
