John Lennon

Sans Excitement

For my second day at my new job at the radio station, I paired a crisp white button-up with my grey pencil skirt. Not a huge departure from yesterday’s look but I’m experiencing a work-appropriate shoe deficit and didn’t have a lot to work with. I knew I had to correct this issue so guess what I did on my lunch break today. Yeah, man! Shoe Shopping!!

I know. Nothing exciting. But at least I managed to snap some crappy pics and keep up with my daily threads posts!

I wore my hair in a low, loose bun for most of the day.

Thats all for today. I’m wiped. I’m still adjusting to waking up before noon now.

Thanks for reading! Love, GK

Rock & Roll History lesson :: October 9 :: Today would’ve been the 72nd birthday of the late John Lennon. It is also the 37th birthday of his son, Sean Ono Lennon. Happy Birthday, John. You are missed! and Happy Birthday, Sean!

Ginger of the Month & Jim Morrison/John Lennon

Happy Birthday Jim Morrison!!!

Today would have been the 67th Birthday of the late, great American rockstar
and poet, frontman of The Doors, Jim Morrison.
He was found dead on July 3rd, 1971 by his long time lover, companion, confidante, and muse, Pamela Courson with whom he spent the last days of his life.

They had a rocky on/off relationship but always ended up coming back to one another. In retaliation to Jim’s frequent infidelities (including a Wiccan marriage), Pamela had several affairs; even so, she is the ultimate Rock and Roll, Ride or Die Woman.

Like Morrison, Pamela has a December birthday (December 22, 1946)
Which is why she is December’s Ginger of the month.

She was the inspiration for many of The Doors songs including:
L.A. Woman
Love Street
Queen of the Highway
Wild Child
We Could Be So Good Together
Orange County Suite
Indian Summer
Blue Sunday
… and more.

In addition to being Jim’s inspiration, it is said that the song Cinnamon Girl by Neil Young is also about Pamela. Neil has never confirmed or denied this.

Pamela died on April 25, 1974 at age 27
(the same age as Jim Morrison and other famous rock stars: Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain and a slue of others… it’s always been intriguing to me.)

December 8th may be the birthday of one of my all-time favorite musicians, but it is also the day another all-time fav of mine died, John Lennon. I wish I could express just how much I love John Lennon and The Beatles, but I can’t. I take comfort, however, in the fact that so many people feel that same love as I do, and there is no need to explain.

John Lennon was, and remains, one of the greats, theres no doubt about it. His songs bring tears to my eyes and a smile to my face each and every time; no matter what I’m feeling, I’m feeling something with every note. December 8th is a day that will “live in infamy” in rock and roll history.

As much as I celebrate the birth and life of Jim Morrison on this day, I also celebrate the life while mourning the death of John Lennon, (and I know I am in good company in doing so). In memorium of John Lennon: Oct 9, 1940-Dec 8, 1980.

Decluttering My Life :: The Office

Yesterday, I took advantage of my day off and cleaned the messiest room in my house, the “office”. When we first moved into the house, before we had the wireless set up, we used this room on the far side of the house as our “office”. Slowly but surely, anytime we didn’t know where to put something, the office seemed to be the answer. After the wireless was up and going, why the hell would we ever go in there other than to put junk [we didn’t know what else to do with] in there, or to retrieve some piece of junk [that we had thrown in there]. Anyway, this is what it eventually looked like:

I couldn’t even go near it without getting a panic attack.

So I knew I wanted to, needed to, clean this room. Using it for storage isn’t a problem, but it needed to be organized. So I bought a bunch of cute colorful bins, set up my fan and my iHome and went to town on that bitch.

And it looks adorable! ♥

I’m so proud!

(Ignore the garbage bags. The stack to the left are the clothes I got rid of when I cleaned out my closet. And the stack to the right is all the trash from cleaning this room.)

I designated a bin to some of my crafty things: photos and old albums, sewing and clothing reconstruction, extra painting supplies, and one more for something…

All the binders, notebooks and folders I’d been keeping [some of] my writings in have just been piled up next to my bed… now they have a home.

And I am a complete freak about school supplies… i simply love them; always have, always will. And, although I have my favorite’s in my bedside table drawer, all my extra supplies now have a proper place. I’m also keeping my sketch books, charcoals, and various other supplies in smaller bins.

We haven’t used that computer is quite a while.

I basically just hung up whatever pictures and posters I found amongst the rubble. I was so relieved to get it done finally. And quite proud at how little time it took me me to get all that done. (And look, there’s David the Gnome! Or “The Roaming Gnome”… whichever)
