August 2013 :: Glossybox :: Bohemian Summer

August 2013 Glossybox USA :: Bohemian Summer

At least Glossybox didn’t go with a cheesy back-to-school theme. I’m a grown-up, thank you. I just so happen to be a grown-up who still enjoys playing dress-up. Here’s what I received:

  • Jelly Pong Lip Blush in Marshmallow Pink.

Love the color. Love the twist up. I’ll have some fun with this lip crayon!

  • Novex Brazillian Keratin Hair Cream

I’ll give this a try when I straighten my hair in the cooler weather (only about 3 months away!) but the packaging reminds me of weird products you find at a severe discount store (like big lots, cheap johns or wise buys) or you might find it on a table at an old lady’s yard sale. Not so sure about this one but only testing it will really tell!

  • Anatomicals Misty for Me Facial Spray

I love this product! I didn’t think I would but this stuff is fabulous! I give my face a spritz after a shower when in lounging about my house or after washing my face for the night.

  • Sue Devitt Triple C-Weed Pressed Powder in Quiet and Still

I like the feeling of this powder when on and will definitely use it.

  • ModelCo Eyeshadow Duo in Bronzed Goddess

Great colors. I can always use more neutrals. One complaint: your entire face gets sparkley after a very short time wearing. The color stays intact during a full night of bartending but the shimmer is all over. I happen to enjoy shimmering on the job but I felt it needed to be shared.

  • – BONUS: Guess Denim Makeup Bag. Hang on, let me velcro my LA Gear hightops and break out my Sony Walkman too. … Guess, Glossybox? You guys are silly.

I’m more pleased with this month’s glossybox than I have been for a while now. Honestly though, I don’t know how much longer Ill keep my subscription. $21 a month can be applied to products I like and want instead of a 5-sampled dice-roll. I can tell some deep thought and contemplation will have to go into this decision.

Thanks for reading!

March 2013 :: Glossybox :: Spring Fling

Spring Fling! That’s the theme for March 2013’s Glossybox. I’m really pleased with this box! Although I’m a bit disappointed with another bar of soap this month, the other products featured are incredible! This is one of the best boxes in a while.

  • ModelCo – Cheek + Lip Tint in Rosy Red ($24.00/.33 oz) CHEEK + LIP TINT is a light weight, dual purpose tint for cheeks and/or lips that delivers an instant & natural rosy glow to suit any skin tone. This transparent gel glides on smoothly, leaving the perfect amount of sheer colour for naturally flushed ‘just pinched’ cheeks and a sexy pout.
  • Pixi Cosmetics – Magic Tink Tint in Happy Thoughts Pink ($16.00/.10 oz) Think happy thoughts as this subtly blooming, super-nourishing gel crayon tints your lips in true Tinker Bell style. The ultra-moisturizing lip balm glides effortlessly onto lips, reacting to your lips’ pH level to deliver a perfectly personalized pink tint – customized ethereal lip magic to flawlessly flatter any fairy!
  • Elite Models – Matt Liner in Matt Brown ($24.00/10ml) Intensity, precision, and resistance brought together in one product! Waterproof and long lasting, the liner won’t budge all day long. Its precise applicator allows you to adjust the thickness of the line the way you like it. The texture dries very quickly and the colors are deep and intense.
  • Prestiche – Essential Oil Bar Soap in Lathernder ($16.99/125 g) This bar soap is made from the highest quality all-natural ingredients, which are hand selected by seasoned botanists, herbalists and cosmetic gurus.  It will soothe even those with extremely sensitive skin, as it contains rich essential oils and vitamins that work to leave skin soft, refreshed, and aromatic.
  • Sebastian Professional – Shaper Fierce ($15.00/.09 oz) From unkempt bed heads to high-fashion chignons, this shaping spray provides buildable, flexible hold while maintaining a high-shine gloss – a definite must-have for keeping your fashionable ‘dos in place.

A little bit goes a loooong way with the Cheek + Lip tint by ModelCo. The looks more like a berry colored stain than rosy red, but I like that even better. I’ve received other ModelCo products in the past and always enjoyed those as well. Pixi has quickly become one of my favorite brands and the fact that it is readily available at my local Target, I can get my hands of replacment must-haves when necessary. This sof,t shiny lip crayon is so delicately adorable. I’m also digging the Elite Models Matt Brown liner. It applies beautifully and lasts long without running.

This box was an absolute win!

Thanks so much for reading!

November 2012 :: Birchbox #7

Ugh. I’m not going to waste a lot of time on this post. I have better boxes with better goodies to review.

This is my absolute last and final Birchbox that I will ever receive. Since signing up in May, I have been disappointed every single month. In October, my disappointed reached it’s peak and I just couldn’t take it anymore. After being reached out to by the Birchbox Operations team, I found their lack of concern for their subscribers opinions absolutely disgusting. I also think they should have more pride in the crap their peddling instead of sending the shit samples and then blaming the lameness on the companies who provided the samples. With so many subscription beauty services saturating the market right now, Birchbox just doesn’t have the luxury of sitting back and sending out lackluster boxes. Just like me, other subscribers can, should and will move on to better services. (Ipsy is $10 a month as well and all their samples are cosmetics and truly deluxe). So here is what I found in my November 2012 Birchbox:

Kerastase :: Chroma Sensitive Shampoo. :: Full Size $42 – Two, one-time-use samples of color safe shampoo by Kerastase. Haven’t used it and I won’t. (I use biolage products by Matrix and alternated with the Moroccan line of hair care.)  zero ♥s

MCMC Fragrances :: Phoenix – Full Size: $45-$95 – This smells… and not good. The company is based out of Brooklyn though. American made by an American company… that’s nice. But I will not be buying this. zero ♥s

ModelCo :: Fibre Lashxtend lengthening mascara :: Full Size: $24 – I like ModelCo products. I like that there is a mirror on the bottle for on-the-go touch ups. But, it’s a black mascara. I didn’t find any distinct difference between this mascara and other lengthening mascaras. I was happy with this sample though. It also seems to be a full size sample… I’ll have to investigate this further. ♥♥♥♥

One Love Organics :: Aromatic Body Serum – Full Size: $39 – A decent sized sample and I really like the smell of this body oil. I prefer the feel of the body oil I received in my October GlossyBox but the scent of this one by One Love Organics is delicious. It says it’s made with pumpkin seed oil and maybe that’s what I’m smelling but it smells very citrusy and you all know I like my citrus smells! ♥♥♥

EXTRA – Chuao Chocolateir :: HoneyComb – Full Size: (7 assorted) $7.95 – This was tasty. Small but delicious. Won’t be buying these in the future (at least not from Birchbox) and these “lifestyle extras” are part of the reason I’m leaving Birchbox. If you want to give me an extra, awesome, I’ll take it but don’t give me “extras” of shit that is non-cosmetic when you haven’t fulfilled the promise of 5 DELUXE beauty samples first. You can keep your chocolates, mints, headphones, tea bags, etc… I want beauty products! zero ♥s

November 2012 Birchbox total: 7♥s/20♥s (plus “extra”)

Also worth mentioning: Birchbox provided a chintzy little cardboard gift box to give one of your crappy samples to a friend for the holidays. A.) I wouldn’t gift any of the crap Birchbox has sent me. BC I, for one, don’t consider a one-time-use item a decent gift and B.) I can afford a real gift bag, Birchbox… keep your tacky shit.

Birchbox would be the perfect subscription beauty services for a freshman in high school (or younger). I feel that the overall Birchbox mentality is that of a tween anyway and the tiny products sent to be sampled would be great for a newbie.

… and that’s why I cancelled my Birchbox.

Thanks for reading! Keep coming back for my monthly GlossyBox US and Ipsy bag reviews!!!

October 2012 :: GlossyBox :: Spa Luxe

This month, I received my very first GlossyBox! I am beyond impressed with what I received especially compared to what I received in my October Goop Birchbox. Here’s the loot:

Even the packaging is impressive!

It all looked so pretty, I almost didn’t want to unwrap it… almost.

The theme of this month’s box is Spa Luxe 2012.

I am so thrilled at the size of each one of the products I received (and they are not even full size! I find that hard to believe). Birchbox, eat your heart out. This is more than worth the $21 subscription cost each month.

Alright, lets take a look at each product individually. I will be issuing a ♥ rating as I have done in the past with my Birchbox reviews. 5 ♥ Max per item and this box is potentially worth 25 ♥s. Let the fun begin!

1.) Alterna Bamboo – Luminous Shine Mist :: Full Size $22 (4oz) – ♥♥♥♥ – I really like these Alterna Bamboo finishing products. I had previous tried their Color Care UV+ Fade Proof Fluide when it arrived in my July Birchbox. I rated the fluide 1♥ at that time and although I stand by my rating, I will say that I have used the fluide since then because of the shine it provides. This Shine Mist is absolutely perfect for me. I may not be willing to trade my regular hair serum for the bamboo fluide, but I can totally dig adding this spray to the end of my hair routine.

Ingredients include Indian gooseberry and organic bamboo. This Luminous Shine Mist helps to control frizz and flyaways while adding a beautiful shine to your hair. I plan on keeping this baby in my purse for touch-ups while out and about. Frizz and Flyaways are always an issue for me. Now, I have a little secret weapon in my arsenal.

2.) Basq Skin Care – Calm Resilient Body Oil :: Full Size $6 (0.26oz) – ♥♥♥ – This “sample” is bigger than the “full size”. Although this confuses me a little, I’m certainly not complaining. I gave this oil a test try on my knees that were looking very dry yesterday. It definitely accomplished what it promises which is to provide skin with intense moisturization and repair. I also applied this to a scar, just under my knee, and it seemingly helped reduces the red look of this scar.

This product promises to strengthen, tone and protect skin with skin essential omegas. Time will tell if this is true and I will be using this product until the last drop. It smells great and absorbs quickly; really nice to put on before bed. I doubt I will ever buy this product though which is why I only rated this 3 ♥s.

3.) Heartland Fragrances – Exfoliating Loofa Soap :: Full Size $8 (6oz) – ♥♥♥ – I really like this soap. I wouldn’t replace my usual body soap with this one but every once in a while, this is a delicious treat. First of all, it smells amazing! Its soft and my skin felt great after rinsing. The loofa encased in the soap is an awesome idea that I have never seen before. In my first use of this soap this morning, I got a bit of the loofa to emerge and help buff my skin. I wouldn’t buy this again, at least not for myself but I would be totally jazzed to receive some as a gift and would definitely consider buying this as a gift for someone else.

The awesome blood orange scent really helped wake me up this morning and the citrus helps to improve circulation. Not only is it a sweet indulgence, its good for you too!

4.) Illamasqua – Nail Varnish in “Alarm” :: Full Size $14 (0.5oz) – ♥♥♥♥♥ – This is another full sized product in my October GlossyBox. (God, I love my GlossyBox). After only one coat, I had fantastic coverage in a beautiful, bold color. (Orange-tinted Red). After the second coat, it looked even better. I applied this polish last night before bed and it dried semi-quickly but it has not chipped at all from then until now. Usually when I take a shower I get a bit of a chip somewhere and once I do my hair I get a few more. Not with this varnish. So far, it’s holding up better than most.

I would definitely invest $14 in another one of these. When the color looks so great and last longer than a day, it’s worth it. (Please excuse the mess, snapped the pic before touching up.)

SIDE NOTE :: Nail Tip – to clean up edges, I use an old makeup brush (a thin liner brush), dipped in nail polish remover, and I carefully run the brush around the edges of my nails. A very thin paint brush will work just as well.

5.) Modelco – Lip Duo Lipstick & Ultra Shine Lip Gloss :: Full Size $39 (0.13oz lipstick & 0.07oz lip gloss) – ♥♥♥♥♥ – My absolute favorite item I received is this fabulous lipstick and gloss duo from Model co. The gloss color is a fun, light pinky-peach and the lipstick is a bit more neutral.

Not only does this duo look fab, it smells delicious! It has a bit of a fruity smell and taste. It covers nicely too; not too thick, definitely not too thin. If Goldilocks were looking for the perfect lip duo, this would be it.

You can wear the lipstick and gloss separate or layer it as I did above. There’s a little mirror on the black center but it really isn’t good for anything. Regardless of whether you’re applying the lipstick or lip gloss, you can’t use this mirror… you’re holding it and swiping it across your face. I’m actually worried it’ll break in my purse thus giving me bad luck for 7 years! -eek.

I’ll have to wait to see if this is truly long lasting as it claims. If so, I would consider buying this in the future. I sincerely doubt I will though; $40 is an investment in cosmetics and I’d rather invest in a company I know is worth it. I’m still determining whether or not Model co is one of them.

So, how did my October GlossyBox stand up this month? 20♥s out of 25♥s. Not too shabby at all! Out of all five products, I would purchase 4 of them in the future. I am so thrilled at how happy I am with my very first GlossyBox! From the packaging to the products, this box is completely fabulous. I am so pleased with my subscription and hope my future GlossyBoxes are as good (if not better!) Am I a total hoarder for keeping my beautiful little box? (They’re perfect for organizing my products!)

Thank you so much for reading! Please check back later today for my October Goop Birchbox review. (It’s not going to be pretty…)
