D.I.Y. :: Galaxy Nails

Last night, I decided to try out a nail art idea that I’ve seen floating around the internet for a long time: Galaxy Nails. It’s super easy to do and there’s really no way to possibly mess-up. All you’ll need to do this yourself is a few nail polishes and a makeup sponge or a couple of cheap eye shadow applicators.  The color polishes you’ll want to work with include: 1. Black or Dark Purple or Dark Blue. 2.) White 3.) Light Green or Light Gold. 4.) Blue or a Brighter Blue (if you used dark blue for your base color) 4.) Pink. 5.) Sparkles. Here are the colors I used:

  • wet n wild :: black creme
  • sally hansen extreme wear :: white on
  • julep :: piper
  • sally hansen triple shine :: wavy blue
  • julep :: lily
  • julep :: trina
  • sinful colors nail art :: bad chick
  • sinful colors :: queen of beauty

IMG_6870.JPGStart by painting your nail with your dark color. Next, dab white polish around the center of the nail with the sponge using a very light hand. Then, apply your next color the same way.

Blend the last color into the dark polish perimeters with blue. Now, add touches of pink or purple around, still using the sponge technique. *Be sure not to over-do-it with any of the colors and end up covering all of the white; you still want some white popping out.* The next step is optional: Using a teeny-tiny nail art brush, you can add some white specks and x’s (or maybe bigger chunks of glitter). Finally, finish with a sparkly top coat and you’re done!

Next time I paint my nails like this, I will definitely do a few things differently. One of those adjustments will be to go easy on the sparkle polish too. I feel like the overabundance of of silver takes away from the colors. But what can I say? I like a lot of glitter in my galaxy.

Today’s Target Haul & VersaSpa

photo

I just got home from Target and Tanning and wanted to share with you my beauty haul and tell you a little bit about my first experience with VersaSpa at my local Boca Tanning Club. First, here’s what I picked up at Target:

  • St Ives Naturally Indulgent Body Lotion with Coconut Milk & Orchid Extracts
  • Jergens Shea Butter Moisturizer – travel size (for my purse)
  • Earth Therapeutics Soothing Bead Gel beauty mask
  • Yes To Cucumber Facial Towelettes – travel size (also for my purse since I’ll need to remove my makeup before each of my upcoming tanning sessions.)
  • Maybelline Fit Me concealer in Fair
  • EOS Lip Balm in Summer Fruit
  • Sally Hansen nail files
  • Sally Hansen Double Duty base and top coat
  • Que Bella Purifying Mud Mask with Teatree & Witchhazel
  • Que Bella Refreshing Peel-off Mask with Pomegranate
  • Soho London Kabuki Brush (I actually snagged this at TJ Maxx for $6.99 along with a few soy candles.)

I recently ran out of my go-to concealer (Tarte Amazonian Clay Concealer) and needed to pick one up so I went with the Maybelline Fit Me concealer. I like the Maybelline Fit Me line of products and it’ll hold me over just fine until I get another tube of the Tarte. I had never tried the eos lip balms until today but they came highly recommended so at check-out I threw one of these babies in my basket and I’m happy I did. I don’t necessarily believe this will become one of my must-have items but I definitely like it a lot. I like the little egg-like shape but I know, after a few drinks, i’m going to have trouble sealing it again and destroy my lip balm. The cold face mask, mud mask and peel-off masks I picked-up because, hey, why not? I grabbed some nail equipment because my mind was on the new bottle of essie I bought yesterday, at walgreens, and I’m about to mani-it-up when I’m done with this post.

Ok. So onto the tanning. As a ginger, I don’t do well in the sun. If I can somehow manage to enjoy more than a couple of hours under the sun, I can’t even dream for one second enjoying a beautiful dose of color… unless it’s a beautiful dose of shades ranging from the mild, blush to the painful, bright crimson. My best result is just pink and the worst result could kill me. Of course, like a lot of other people, I do enjoy the way I look (in a bathing suit, especially) with a little bit of a glow. Naturally, over the years I’ve experienced some of the worst results of self tanning but I’ve also had some good results. Recently I’ve been researching VersaSpa spray tanning and reading/hearing a lot of really positive things. I checked out a few youtube videos of other fair skinned girls discussing their results and I liked that those results weren’t extreme; The VersaSpa is subtle but can be easily built up. The process is super fast! After my tutorial from the salon girl, I only spent about five minutes being sprayed. I could see a slight difference immediately and in the past hour and half, I’ve noticed it developing a bit. After about 6-8 hours, the color should be fully developed. (I’ll post an update on how I like the color as well as some of the other products I’ve been using to self tan recently in a future post.)

I decide upon buying a month package at Boca Tanning specifically for the VersaSpa. For a month, I can get unlimited sprays for the price of 3 sprays. Even if I only go once a week, it’s still worth it but since it’s unlimited this month, I might build myself a darker than usual tan for the Fourth of July! Again, why not?

Blue, Black & White Nails

Yesterday, I treated myself to some new beauty supplies. (I got bored and spent too much time in Walgreens..)

  • Sally Hansen Complete Care Extra Moisturizing 4-in-1 Treatment
  • Sally Hansen Smooth and Perfect ColorCare – 07 Sea
  • Sally Hansen nail file
  • Vanity Fair Magazine
  • YesTo Cucumbers facial towelettes
  • wet n wild megalast nail color – 213C On a Trip
  • wet n wild megalast nail color – 218A I Need a Refresh-Mint
  • wet n wild megalast nail color – 204B Private Viewing

At the hotel where I work, nail polish is extremely limited. You may as well not wear it because that how light it needs to be: nude neutrals, light light light pink, classic french and clear. That’s pretty much it. So when I have a couple of days off, I like to feed my love of fun nails. This time I exploded and went all over the place within a blue, black and white theme.

The supplies used: Sally Hansen complete care, wet n wild blue, white sinful colors nail art, rimmel finish pro in black, pure ice black crackle, pure ice white sparkles, some random nail stickers and manicure stickers.

Here’s what I came up with:

***excuse the sloppiness in the above photo. that was taken immediately following painting, before I even washed my hands or cleaned up the edges.***

It’s a shame because tonight, I have to take it all off and replace it with a neutral color to work. 😦 At least I bought myself a brand new neutral on Sunday too! … Always thinking ahead.
