February 2014 :: Ipsy Glam Bag :: The Look of Love

The Look Of Love

February 2014 Ipsy Glam Bag

This month’s glam bag was alright for me. I’m not thrilled about any of the products inside but I’m happy I didn’t receive any repeats (unless you count the Zoya polish but it’s always a new color and I love nail polish soooo…). The theme for February was “The Look of Love” and thats not surprising since most people think Valentine’s Day when they think February. How come more people don’t think of Presidents Day or Groundhog Day? Two of our most influential presidents were February born but we all fixate upon a Christian Saint’s Day represented by a Roman/Greek God depicted as a chubby magical baby shooting arrows of love through the hearts of humans. But I digress. This month’s romantic-themed products came about a week too late to use on the big day and I’m actually a bit annoyed with that too. I used to count on receiving my glam bag around the 10th-12th of each month; it seems recently my bag arrives later and later. Who am I to pass judgement though? I’ve never been on time for anything in my life.

  • Zoya – Nail Polish in Odette – I’m a fan of Zoya and 100% because of the numbers bottles I’ve received from my various beauty box subscriptions over the past year and half. I’m a fan of purples and am happy to have this new color in my collection.
  • First Aid Beauty – Skin Rescue Deep Cleansing with Red Clay – I haven’t given this product a try yet but I’m looking forward to doing so.
  • Pop Beauty – Plump Pout Mini in Peony Petal – I like Pop Beauty products and there has been no shortage of products from this company in my glam bags since my first delivery. I like this gloss and the color is fun and feminine. Feels good to apply and even better to wear. The tint lasts for a while but reapplications are a must when wearing out. (Otherwise you get that left-over super ring of color around the lip line.)
  • City Color – Be Matte Blush in – I’m not familiar with City Color and was concerned this product was a little “cheap” for Ipsy. The color is light but effective and very pigmented. Not a lot is needed for a soft peachy-pink cheek.
  • Tini Beauty – Eyetini Cordial Cream Shadow + Base in One in Ambrosia – I really like this eye shadow and the Tini products often prove to be quite good quality. I was excited to find this one in my bag and it is by far my favorite product that I received this month.

The colors of each product appear a bit lighter in this photo but they’re all pretty and girlie and I’ll have a lot of fun adding these to my looks. Thanks to you guys using my personal link to sign up to be an Ipster, I’ve accrued a decent amount of Ipsy Points and was able to cash in a few of them on some additional products that I also received this month.

Additionally, I received High Beam highlighter from Benefit and Salon Secrets Nail Art Starter Kit from Kiss. I absolutely love High Beam from Benefit and have used it in the past. I’m pretty jazzed to play around the all the tacky goodness the Kiss Nail Art Kit provides too! I redeemed points for an NYX Bronze Smokey Eye Kit too but didn’t receive it with this delivery. (Maybe next month?) I really hope Ipsy changes up their selection of redeemable points products soon. Once you redeem your points for one of the available products, you can’t redeem points for a duplicate and they’re seemingly very slow to update those options. I have more points to trade it and am looking forward to doing so soon! As a loyal Ipster and one who has recommended several new Ipsters, I’d like to take advantage of my points as quickly and as often as possible.

If you’re interested in signing up to receive your monthly Glam Bag from Ipsy, you can CLICK HERE and do so. You’ll also help me rack up more of those Ipsy Points for awesome products!! Once a subscriber, you’ll receive a personalized link you can provide to friends, family, readers, whoever and you’ll begin accruing your own Ipsy Points!

Thanks for much for reading!

October 2013 :: Ispy :: The Art of Beauty

October 2013 Ipsy Glam Bag

The Art of Beauty

I was pretty happy with this month’s Ipsy MyGlam Bag. The theme this month was “The Art of Beauty” and the bag was full of some great goodies to construct a fun and healthy look. Here’s what I got:

  • Zoya Nail Laquer  Mason  a fun, iridescent purple color. I’ll have a lot of fun with this one. Happy to be adding another fabulous color from Zoya to my polish collection.
  • Nourish Organic – Coconut & Argan Body Lotion This lotion is 100% natural usda-certified organic. Promising to “deeply nourish”, it’s non-greasy, absorbs quickly and smells fantastic! The summery aroma will help me think tropical thoughts during the next very cold, very dry months.
  • Ofra – Lipgloss Plumper in Sultry I love the deep burgundy color. Theres a shimmery sparkle and it doesnt feel overly sticky.
  • h2o+ – Face Oasis I can always use another post-cleansing hydrating treatment. Instead of a cream, this treatment is a gel.
  • Sexy Hair – Spray Clay I’m already a fan of Sexy Hair products and I will definitely be able to put this hairspray to good use. This is definitely not a flexible spray though; better for stubborn styles.

There you have it. My Ipsy MyGlam Bag for October. Thanks for reading!

May 2013 :: Ipsy :: Spring Fling

Spring Fling! That’s May 2013’s Ipsy MyGlam Bag theme. I am very, very happy with this month’s bag. So many great products in this bag!

Zoya – Nail Polish in Gie Gie ($8.00/0.5 oz) Zoya Nail Polish and Treatments put beauty, fashion and style into every bottle with innovative custom color creations and fashion trend adaptation resulting in a truly luxury cosmetic experience.

Urban Decay – Moondust Eyeshadow in Space Cowboy ($20.00/0.05 oz) You’ve never seen a sparkly shadow this sophisticated.  Moondust is dazzling sparkly but with a super refined, incredibly sophisticated feel (and not a single speck of chunky glitter).  Microfine bits of iridescent sparkle collide with intense, dreamy hues and lush, 3-D metallics–for an effect that’s out of this world.

Mirabella – Colour Sheers in Posy ($22.00/3 g) Beautifully sheer lip color to wear all day and night.  Mango butter base nourishes lips.

Yaby – Concealer Refill in Buff ($4.85/3.5 g) Yaby concealers have a creamy texture and are extremely easy to apply.  They are highly pigmented to correct any imperfections on the face and body, are creamy and gentle for around the eyes and are tear proof!  Vegan friendly and contain no animal byproducts.

Anastasia – Mini Clear Brow Gel Anastasia’s best selling product is a clear gel for all brow colors that sets, defines, and shapes your brows all day long for a lustrous, natural look. Flake-proof. Film-forming polymer helps define and hold the brow

Pacifica – Island Vanilla Roll-On perfume Island Vanilla: Inspired by the unique magic of Tahitian vanilla, this sensual blend sets sweet and sultry vanilla absolute, with honey-jasmine notes and a touch of fruitiness, against a deep and beautiful base of tea.

I absolutely love each and every product in this month’s bag! Well, I don’t absolutely love the Yaby concealer, but I dont hate it and I will use it. I’ve just never been impressed with Yaby products such as the eye shadows featured a few months ago. (March, I believe). I’m a huge fan of Urban Decay and love this eye shadow! Despite being bored with receiving nail polishes in my monthly boxes, I do love the delicate pink polish. The Pacifica roll-on smells delicious! And I am so excited about the Mirabella lipstick. This is my new favorite lipstick. I have been wearing it nearly every day since receiving it! Its the perfect shade and it last long without drying out. New favorite lipstick!!!

Thank you so much for reading!!

December 2012 :: GlossyBox :: Glamour, Glitz and Gloss

Ok, ok… late again. retro-dating, again.

December 2012 Glossy Box :: Glamour, Glitz and Gloss

Alrighty, first up, my favorite product in this months box: Lipclick Luxe Lipstick by Mark. I love the color and I love the tube itself. The cool thing about this Lipclick is the magnetic closure. Less chance of this opening up in your purse.

My second favorite in this box was the ZOYA nail laquer. I own another ZOYA polish and I like the brand. The quality is good and last a while without chipping. I love this glittery gold but it was kind of a bitch to take off.

A small frangrance sample of Pleats Please by Issey Miyake. It smells nice.

Tiny, aluminum tear-open sample of Wella Velvet Amplifier hair primer. I haven’t used this but I’m interested in the theory…

The next two products are definitely my least favorites only because I will rarely get a chance to use products like these, bath and shower additives, and thus don’t care to sample them all that frequently and I got two in one box.

Forrest Essentials Luxurious Ayurveda replenishing bath and shower oil.

and Heartland Fragrance Co. Bath Salts in White Ginger. These will sit on my tub until I one miraculous day have time to just sit and soak in a lovely therapeutic bath… “aint nobody got time for that!”

As an awesome extra, GlossyBox through in this dainty necklace from JewelMint. I am extremely allergic to nickel and when buying costume jewelry I have to make sure it’s nickel-free or I get a weird, nasty, bumpy rash wherever the cheap jewelry was… I was very happy that I did not react to this piece. I’m not sure how long the lovely sparkle will last before it tarnishes so I’m going to get some wear out of it now.

There ya have it! My December 2012 GlossyBox!! (Fingers crossed that I get my January, Manrepeller box, review done in better time.)

Thanks for Reading! Love, GK

Mad for Makeup

Stila, Sephora and Urban Decay, oh my!

I did a little splurging today. (What else is new?) It started out innocently enough on Birchbox.com and quickly escalated into a full-on makeup buying frenzy. Nevertheless, I wanted to brag about the goodies I’ll be receiving soon enough and let you in on some of the awesome deals that you can also claim right now.

Since I’ll be canceling my Birchbox soon, I wanted to cash in the Birchbox points I had. The two items I traded my points for are below and I’m quite excited about receiving them.

First up, is the stila “It’s Go Time” Lip Glaze trio. It’s a “Birchbox Exclusive” except that you can get a similar trio on Sephora as well. ( Sephora.com: stila lip gloss trio also $12. Or for a little more than double, why not get 8 stila glosses? stila “All is Bright” lip glaze set for $25)

My only gripe with stila glosses are how sticky they are. The shine and pretty pout they offer is what keeps me coming back but the stickiness is less than pleasing.

Next, on Birchbox.com, I picked up one of the nail colours from Zoya’s Intimate Nail Polish Collection. I chose “Caitlin”. It’s the lighter purple color featured below under “available options”. (2nd polish from the left in pic).

I’ve never used Zoya nail polishes but I’ve read some good reviews and I really loved the colour of Caitlin.

So that’s that. I traded in my Birchbox points. No sense in missing out on redeeming them for some products before canceling my subscription, right? But my cosmetics shopping didn’t stop there. No, I moved on to Sephora.com where I spent more than I planned to today. I did nab some sweet deals though!

I love the sample boxes put together by Sephora! It’s a great way to expand your makeup arsenal without paying for the full sizes at full price. This set is the Sephora Favorites Glitz and Glam Party Sampler and is perfect for the upcoming holidays ($45)! The set includes:

  • – 0.09 oz Stila Duo Shimmer Powder in Kitten
  • – 0.018 oz Laura Mercier Baked Eye Color – Wet/Dry in Black Karat
  • – 0.02 oz bareMinerals Eyecolor in Good Fortune
  • – 0.125 oz SEPHORA by OPI Nail Colour in Looks Like Rain Dear
  • – 0.11 oz Josie Maran GOGO Instant Natural Volume Argan Mascara in Black
  • – 1 oz Nars Body Glow
  • – 0.17 oz Lorac 3D Liquid Lustre Gold
  • – 0.15 oz Bare Escentuals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Trail Blazer
  • – 0.01 oz Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Starfish
  • -Metallic zipper clutch

I almost bought the Stila Smudge Stick on Birchbox for $20 before venturing over to Sephora and I’m sure glad I didn’t!

Here’s what Sephora has to say about the Glitz and Glam Party Sampler:

What it is:
A dazzling makeup collection featuring nine of Sephora’s most glittering products—plus a chic metallic clutch.
What it does:
Perfect for the holidays, this kit has a gorgeous assortment of festive products to create any party-ready look, including three full-size products. Take it all anywhere you go in the included distressed metallic zippered clutch.

I can’t wait and I wont have to for very long because on Sephora, any order over $50 includes free three day shipping! However, my Glitz and Glam box is only $45, I had to find at least one more item to make my order more than $50. I found two.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Haight. $6. YES! $6. They are having a sale on Urban Decay Eyeshadows right now. I would suggest you hop over to Sephora right now and buy them all at this price! I took everything in my power to not buy all 13 colours. If this sale is still going on next week, I will be back for the rest! Today, I only picked up two. The other colour I bought is:

Purple Haze. Just like the Jimi song. Normally, I’m a neutral colour kind of girl but since I was splurging anyway, I figured I’d get some fun colours! (I want to get Half Baked and Kiddie Pool as well.)

That’s where my buck stops but those aren’t the only things coming at me from Sephora. I was able to select 3 samples from a [pretty slim] list. Here’s what I selected:

I’ve never tried either of these perfumes and I’m excited about giving this leave-in conditioner a try as well. That’s still not it. By using the promo code philo3 at check out, I secured a 3 piece Philosophy sample set as well.

If you head over to Sephora.com, make sure you sign up to be a Beauty Insider. It’s Sephora’s customer reward program that allows you to accrue points as you buy that can be redeemed for sweet stuff. It also keeps you in the loop about specials, promotions, new product launches and earns you invites to special events. Sephora also send their Beauty Insiders a birthday gift each year! It’s a great program and if you’re spending anyway, why not collect points to be used later?

I may have spent more money on makeup than I expected to when I woke up this morning but the deals I got are incredible. Money well spent, I say! I know I’ve been slacking on my Daily Threads posts; this weekend I was just having way too much fun and didn’t have time to take any pics and post the descriptions and yesterday I had to do some Halloween shopping after work followed by a movie with friends. (We saw Argo. I loved it. One of my friends hated it. I would suggest seeing it.)

No word back from Birchbox yet. If you read, they contacted me on Friday about my dissatisfaction with the October Goop Birchbox. I was temporarily impressed with their customer service so instead of sending them the nasty email I had drawn up to send them originally, I decided to be a bit nicer and tone down the anger. However, since I haven’t heard back from them, I’m now figuring that their whole “reach-out” to me was BS and they really just don’t care about their loyal subscribers or the quality of their service. If you’re pissed at Birchbox too, contact them and tell them Ginger-Kate sent you! If i ever hear back from them, I’ll be sure to let you know how they plan to resolve this extreme upset over their craptastic box.

Thanks for reading! I’ll be posting full reviews on each of these products once I’ve received them and had a chance to play with them.

Love, GK
